New CCKW book
Hi Guys,
In response to some private messages, I can confirm that indeed my new CCKW book is shipping this week from the publisher, Squadron-Signal.
The name of the book is The GMC CCKW Truck in U.S. Service Historical Reference.
This book is sort of the "big brother" to my DUKW book that was released last month.
The book is hardbound, 504 pages, 100,000 words, 1,200 photos and ten years in the making.
The bulk of the material presented in the book came from General Motors documents, augmented in part by materials found at the National Archives and in private collections.
There are no assumptions in this book - everything presented is documented - and when something was not known, there were no guesses, educated or otherwise.
I'll have these books (and the DUKW book) at the MVPA convention. I am not in the mail order book business, thus the only way to get one from me is at a show. However, I don't go to a lot of shows, and a lot of you don't either. Thus, I am working on a special arrangement for my fellow collectors, the details of which will be announced in a couple of days.
Best wishes,
David Doyle

Hi David:
That's great news! I've been waiting a long time for your newest book on the GMC to be published. Please save two of them for me in Portland and I'll purchase them as soon as I see you. Of course, I'll get them signed by the author. Congratulations on this wonderful milestone accomplishment. I can't wait to read it!

Re: New CCKW book
I've ordered two copies from Amazon, one for me and one for a buddy. The title is listed as being out of stock but orders are being accepted for delivery when available.
I hope that's soon.

Re: New CCKW book
I suspect that Amazon sold through their first shipment and is awaiting a restock. My books arrived on the 28th, theirs likely did as well.
At Portland I will be offering a special combination price for a combination of CCKW book and DUKW book. The publisher is also offering that price direct for folks that can't make it to Portland. It is available at this link:

Fred and Warren, your books have been put aside for you.
Best wishes,
David

Please revise my order to 2 "Convention special" sets of both the DUKW and GMC/CCKW books. I look forward to vigorously shaking your hand in a few weeks for a job superbly done. Again, Congratulations!

Re: New CCKW book
I'll be glad to set aside individual books, or "package deals" of the convention special (buyer gets both the CCKW and DUKW for $100 for pickup (and payment)) at the convention.
However, to be sure of getting your copy or copies and avoid being disappointed in the event I run out, its best to send me an email at ddoyle9570 at aol dot com in the next ten days or so. Let me know what you'd like - and your real name and they'll be waiting on you at my table.
I did get a message from a fellow asking about credit cards - regrettably, since I am just a guy who writes books - and not a "store" per se, I'm not set up to handle credit cards.
Thanks for the interest!
Sincerely,
David

Re: New CCKW book
A DYNAMITE CCKW BOOK! It arrived today and exceeds expectations. WWII CCKW history comes alive with the clear and detailed WWII period GI and factory photos. Definitely a "coffee table" book. I can smell the GI canvas, grease on the coveralls, and hear new CCKW's being driven thru their paces as I read thru it.
CCKW restorers and admirers, you will not be disappointed.
