Re: Working on the Studebaker Bed is on
Well this past week was great
I took phantom for her longest run yet about 7 hours but she was on the back of my truck on a trailer.
Took her all the way to Racine WI to get her bed put on I know that everyone has been watching the progress of the bed and now it is all coming together.
Here is what Ray said and some photos
"Well, the day has finally come to put the bed back on the Phantom... I mounted the frame when Ken was here dropping off Phantom... I wanted him to at least help with that part... Ken attached the lights and the plug socket and rewired the connections.... This afternoon at 5pm was the day of days... we started laying and drilling the floor boards and the straps to hold everything together... one by one it looked better and better... at midnight we were finished with the floor.... It was so much fun...My friend Katrina and my brother helped out a lot... next is to recreate the end sills and mount the walls on..."
So after all that was done Ray took Phantom to a reenactment at Trimborn Farm this weekend and took some photos of her around the camp. Still have to put the sides on the bed but its looking good.
Rob in the background wishing he could take her home.

Re: Working on the Studebaker Bed is on
More photos of the bed being done and worked on.
Here is Ray thoughts
"Well, it has finally happened... I finally have the complete bed on the Studebaker... I rebuilt the rear wall along the cab due to rot... have it just bolted together enough to be able to move the truck in and out of the barn... now I will spend the next week drilling holes and mounting everything together... I will also mount the mud guards in place on Friday... it has been a long process of finding and cutting wood to bring this bed back to the living... hope you all enjoy the hard work I did "
I am very excited to see her almost done cant wait to get her back in late July

Wow
That is amazing to see, you have done a great job Ray that is looking spot on
Did you get all the seat bracketry with that body or have you had to find it
Just one question though have you got the bed sitting back for a reason as it looks as as if it needs to go closer to the cab
Either way it looks brilliant
Well done
Cheers

Re: Working on the Studebaker Bed is on
Shane you are correct
When I found this bed it is for a 4-5 ton truck its not the 80x144 its a 88x136
WE are on the look out for the correct bed but it needs to be a wood one. Since we have this gap we are looking at mounting some spare tires between the bed and cab on the bed.

Re: Working on the Studebaker Bed is on
Well guys here is some more updates on Phantom Sorry for the long delay in getting photos of her out.
Here are some earlier photos of when we painted the front end.
Then we went into painting the stars on her. But they look way too big but according to the Marking book these are the correct size I have to question that tell me what you think.
On the hood instead of the roof but man this thing looks HUGE!!!!!
Looking from the rear
Also installed the rear screening on the window
She is about done only have the little stuff to do now and then ready to go.
If anyone is going to Rockford WW2 days next weekend She will be there.

Looks great!
Back in the time they were painted, you would want the stars that large with P-47's flying around!
Are you going to paint her nickname on the door?

Re: Working on the Studebaker Bed is on
We are still deciding where to put the name. It is between these places..
A) over the star
B) On the drivers side upper engine Skirt
C) On the drivers side on the hood
D) Above the front windshield
Did have an issue this weekend
When I was driving her back from an event the gas pedal wass sticking up not down and could not ge her to get any gas.
Found out that the arm on the throttle body became stripped and was causing her to push it forward which caused the butterfly to catch on the body. Was able to her going again thankfully rebuilding this truck from the ground up I can find and trouble shoot the issues that come up.
Hope to find some photos of her at the event as I didnt take any forgot.

Great work,
What a great restoration. When that truck rolled by it was 1942 all over again.
Gotta love those trucks.
Thanks for posting,
Dave

Very nice work on that 4 ton bed. Just when he gets it all done some a**hole for Idaho calls and tells him he has the right bed for him. Sorry about that.
