Post by Jean Georges » Sat Feb 10, 2024 9:45 am

Hello Folks
i have got 2 diamond 969 T wreckers early 1941
and one of them has got data plate showing early

i was unable until now to find the vin number stamped on the chassis
there is no trace of any number where it is described on the SNL and else
they wrote right hand near the spring hanger below the cowl
i would be grateful to someone able to guide my

Hi Jean,

The chassis numbers on the 969 wreckers are notoriously lightly stamped in 3/4" numerals.
Mine is on the passenger side chassis rail, about an inch up from the bottom and 2" forward of the spring rear hanger bracket.
A torch, wire brush and magnification glasses helped.

Can I ask about some details on your early truck?
1) The tool racks on the rear body tool locker lids are bolted down, are the bolts in holes drilled in the lids or studs that are resistance welded to the lids?
2) The compartment to the left of the drivers seat that is between the seat base and the cabin side, that has the shift plate mounted on it, is the space inside it accessed from behind the compartment (where the rifle buckets are mounted) or from under the seat?
3) Is there a DT logo cast into the radiator top tank?
4) Does the bonnet (hood) front right lower corner have a turnout to help clear the governor housing?

I ask as I have noticed some detail differences in 969s and suspect that they are production modifications.

Enjoy.
