sad day for a Autocar wrecker

Post by primal4x4 » Thu Jun 01, 2023 9:00 pm

Tried to save this 1940 Autocar from a scrapper/flipper this week but he was to excited to get it torched to bits.

He could have made his money back, and saved on the labor of cutting it up....he had the power apparently, and loved it! Can someone say ''JERK.

A bunch of assumptions there. How was he going to make "his money back"?

I did not read any indication that money was involved.

That is unfortunate. The boom setup looks like it came off a Ward LaFrance wrecker.

He updated the ad once he learned it was WW2 but still cut it up quickly.

At that price, it was destined for scrap if that was his other option. And it would only bring a small portion of that once cut for scrap.
Some stuff just can't be saved.

I can hear him now -

"You guys think it is worth a fortune? Then pay me a fortune. Oh, you don't want to pay a fortune, then I will just destroy it . . . and get less than a fortune - just to prove to you it is not worth a fortune."

It is all about the money . . . and the power over other folks.

Ive been there many times.Look if your going to scrap it anyway which in reality is just a few hundred bucks than why haggle over price??If I over $1000.00 for it don't get offended your still making out on the deal.Ive seen so many vehicles that I offered good money for years ago still rusting in fields.I love the Im gonna restore it line.Kills me every time.

I saw that ad, but didn't bother to post it due to the silly price tag.
I've seen this happen many times over the years.

The typical "I saw a perfect one of these go thru Barrett-Jackson go for this much, so my parts car must be worth almost that much" type of pricing.

Well now, how can you beat a great deal like that!! After making maybe $500 on scrapping all the heavy steel, now he has to figure out what to do with the sheet metal, because he is going to be looking at it for a long time...

Maybe we should get together and send him some packets of ketchup . . . so he can eat it.

So he's gone from a roller to a dragger, and still thinks it's worth 10k... If he finds a buyer, I have a good deal on some property in Arizona near the ocean that the new owner could park it on.
