Engine casting number for 1 and 1/2 ton Chevy

What is the casting number for ww2 Chevy block? Does it say GM or Chevrolet above the casting number. My friend has a block with casting number 839770 or 889770. I think it is a GMC 270 and someone re-engineering his Chevy.

839770 is a Chevy engine. The serial number beside the distributor should start with BV if it’s the original type engine. Thanks
