Re: Composite Chevy cargo box recovery
That bed is looking really great Jon. Ya know, I think that I must be touched with a bit of clairvoyance because I remember suggesting that you build a bed due to your access to tools and experience in the steel trade . Just sayin'.

Re: Composite Chevy cargo box recovery
Thanks Dave,
Building this thing is a lot of work.
Made some more progress this week, seems like everything takes longer than expected and I have less and less time to spend on it.
Here's some progress pics... Lots of finishing up left to do before I can start on the front panel and cross members.

Re: Composite Chevy cargo box recovery
Thanks Guys!!!
It'll certainly be one of the most rust free beds out there.
I had the oak sleepers and front body mount blocks made at a local mill work shop. Looking forward to getting into that part of the project.
Here's the front body mounts... Here's all that's left of the sleepers... I'll have to grab some pics of the sleepers.

Making a little more progress...
I've got the 2 sides all welded together, still have to do some grinding and straighten the tailgate chains and rivet the rope hooks back on. I took a little side trip to work on the tail board The hinge for the tool box door needs replacement, but the door itself is in great shape.
I also went looking for registration numbers on the tailgate... ... No such luck.

Yikes!, It’s been 2 years since I’ve made any progress on this body
The 3 under body cross members just got finished and the repairs to the headboard are underway. I want to offer up the old old sides, tail board and cross members to anyone who might want to use them as templates for building a body. I know there’s not much meat on the bones, but they’re free, just come and get’em.

Unfortunately, in the pile of parts pic appears that they have been removed, probably to install on the new bed??phillip.w.givens wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 10:03 amP.S.

Re: Composite Chevy cargo box recovery
Wow! Thanks guys for all the encouraging replies, I’m humbled.
Hopefully in the next few days I’m going to bolt it all together an start wrapping up all the little Got-see loose ends. I’d like to get it sent out for blasting and painting before the end of March, we’ll see how that goes.
Hello Phillip, yes Kirk is correct. I removed the lower tail gate hinges for the new tail board.
How’s it going Dave, yes I’d like to see it finished too. All the loose parts hanging around takes up a lot more space than a finished body. It’s also hard to keep track of everything.
Hey Bob, yes Joe has really grabbed the bull by the horns and has taken a lot weight off me, it’s a wonderful thing.
Thanks for posting Ray, I’ll try and post some worthwhile progress, I gotta get this attached to the truck.

It's a thing of beauty! Nice job Jon... and how many hours did you say you have into this project?? lol Can't help you with the tool compartment as my bed is the all steel version. Hopefully someone will get back to you so you can wrap up this undertaking. Nice job!! Bob
