Re: G506 Panel Van Rear Running Board Question
Is John contemplating a new 1-1/2 ton Chevy project?

Re: G506 Panel Van Rear Running Board Question
Possibly. I went to see it today. To be honest, it's in better shape than I thought it would be. That's not to say it doesn't need a good amount of body and mechanical work, but there's good potential. My real crunch is that I'm in DC without room to work on a vehicle at my house. We'll see how things sort out on that front. At any rate, it was great to meet the owner and kind of dip my toe back into the O.D. world.

Re: G506 Panel Van Rear Running Board Question
Tony, another van question for you. (My thanks in advance for your willingness to share info about your truck!)
When you get the chance, could you post photos of your seats and also how they mount to the floor? These are shots of the seats that are currently with the van. I'm guessing the one that's in two parts is not original to the truck and I'm hoping the other one is, though I suspect at a minimum it's missing its mounting hardware.
Sincerely,
John

Re: G506 Panel Van Rear Running Board Question
Hey John, here are a couple of pics for you.
At least one of the seats looks to be quite similar. Tomorrow when I get home from work I'll get a photo or two. The passenger seat on mine lifts from the back and pivots on a front hinge. I'll show that and any other detail that might help.

Re: G506 Panel Van Rear Running Board Question
Thanks, Tony. All photos will be much appreciated.
I suspect from these images that there is a special panel that goes over the well beneath the seats. I'd be interested to see shots of that, along with the way the seats attach to it.
Sincerely,
John

Re: G506 Panel Van Rear Running Board Question
John,
Here are a few images I shot just a while ago. I hope they will be helpful in your quest.
The driver seat only attaches in the front as the photo shows. In the back it just rests on pads similar to the pads that you can see on the passenger seat in it's hinged forward position. On the pic of the seat hinged forward, if you look to the right rear of the seat riser you may notice the bulge in the stamping. It's seems to me that it is formed that way to allow for a fuel filler for the gas tank within the riser, perhaps on civvy panels. One of these days I may try to figure out what I can do with that space.
Also fun in taking these pics is that I for the first time saw evidence of the original seat fabric. It appears to have been left in place when the heavy duty black upholstery was done. Very cool.

Driver seat attachment Good side view of seat riser Passenger seat hinge Passenger seat cushion. Note locating pins. Passenger seat. Seat cushion removed. Next two pics of passenger seat. Seat and back cushions removed. Passenger seat back. Hangs from top of frame within seat body. Passenger seat hinged forward.

Re: G506 Panel Van Rear Running Board Question
Excellent reference shots, Tony. Thanks a bunch.
I think this confirms one of the seats in the van I looked at could be correct. The shape seems very similar, although I'm noting the base of yours is plywood, while the base on the one in the truck is metal. (The pre- and post-war civilian trucks appear to be metal as well. I wonder if the wooden bases came later in the war. Can you refresh my memory as to what year your truck is?)
It also seems the van I looked at is missing the sheetmetal that covers the well underneath the passenger seat. Does that cover extend over to the driver's side? I'm guessing it does and the purpose of that sheetmetal plate was to cover the gas tank that was mounted under the seats in the civilian version. That plate also looks like it supports the back side of the passenger seat, giving it the proper rise so that the seat doesn't sink into the well.
Again, my thanks for your willingness to share this info.
Sincerely,
John

Re: G506 Panel Van Rear Running Board Question
Hi John.
Oh man, you sure are welcome. I've gained so much information from all of you guys, that I am glad to help whenever I can.
She's got a DOD of 6/42. Also, the pan is consistent across under both seats.
Any more pics you need, just let me know. I caught that there was a PM when I checked my email last night. That got me going on this.
