This tank is getting to be as much fun as the transfer case part in another thread. Here's a thought, let's work backward with math. by measuring the known tanks for the dimensions and capacity, we measure the new tank and then look through the TMs and find out what had the same capacity....It might work!

I just bought a AFKX-352 and your tank might be the one on this truck.
When I was buying it this article came fluttering to my mind that your tank could be the same. I am hoping to take the tank off in the next few weeks to check the condition. I'll take pics if I can.

This discussion thread seems to live forever....that is good as some decent information has been discovered in the process.

Funny that I was just talking to another G506 enthusiast about the "mystery" fuel tank. He thought that it may have come from a G4103 YK COE truck.

The M-6 Bomb Service had a Civvy style under seat tank similar to the Civvy Closed Cab.

My Dad looked at it and Its a fueltank for early cargo truck. Longer type with handbrake on rear axle.

I parted out an 'early G-506 [1940]. The cab and instruments were all civilian and the gas tank was mounted on the outside of the frame- passenger side. I sold all that to an Eastern WA collector. The light switch was a 2 position vs the normal 3 position. But it did have military fenders/grill. Newc

Now that I have the AFKX-352 repair shop van home in Ohio and have had the chance to look at the gas tank I can state that this tank is nothing like your tank or any other of the GMC gas tanks. It is taller and shorter than the G506 tanks and the fill spout is welded to a collar that comes up about 18 inches at a 75 degree angle. The tank is more square than oblong. It is just a different duck all together. and now the question goes on unanswered.

39 inch tank fits the inframe tank on the M-6 bomb truck. this truck has two tanks one inframe and one under seat. I have three of these. Joe in nj.

Better late than never. I finally accessed the K43 fuel tank which is covered by a sheet metal box from hell. You can see it left of the winch. The only way to remove it is vertically, as it sits in an angle iron frame. I need to remove all of the winch sheet metal and possibly the roof of the body before i can attempt to remove the tank.

Well, the fuel tank on a K43 is certainly much different than all of the other configurations. Sometimes way different.

A couple of things: I bought a new chev civy tank and changed the filler assy to the mil bigger one.

In addition the tank being different,

the auger & pole setter trucks have a different xfer assy. It is like the Y model trucks as the power passes thru the top shaft out the back to run the winch and auger
