Thanks Bryan. Things are good here and my truck is coming along slowly. I have a few more things to accomplish in the cab and that section will be finished. THEN I can start building a wire harness. Be well brother...

I've been a little busy over the past three weeks with another Chevy brake job. I wrapped it up last Saturday and the owner is well pleased with being able to drive a truck that He can make stop. I am thrilled to see another Chevy G-506 being brought back to life to be put to good work again. I digress. Here are some photos of few little tasks that I was able to complete today on my truck.

I installed the little bumpers on the dash that keep the glove box door from rattling. They fit well but put a bit off stress on the door latch, so I'll be having to remember to push the door in before depressing the release button so the catch doesn't break off.

Then I moved on to the Headlights. I had the idea that I would build my own wire harness, I've done it before and even found a wire supplier with all of the correct cloth covered/coded wiring. I was offered a job and I accepted, gonna have to order one now. Oh well, such a pity to have quality problems such as these.

And lastly, I installed the rifle scabbard. I thought that there would be NO WAY the front clutch head screw would budge let alone come out of the resting spot it has been in since new. But as luck and a DeWalt impact driver would have it, the screw came right out. I countersunk the hole of the lower bracket and screwed it back in place.

Now I just need a pop-gun to fill the scabbard.

Thanks John. I wish I lived down the street, we'd be working on your Chevy EVERY chance we could get to get her rolling and stopping. The brake job that I just finished required actual hands-on time a bit over 40 hours. The waiting time for shoes to be re-lined was about 5 days. The entire process took just under 5 weeks from Start to Shake-Down Cruise. This included installing a new Hydra-Vac and Master Cyl. AND the plumbing between them and the chassis. I'll build a post this weekend with all of the pictures from it.

Tate, I appreciate You Mister  . VERY KIND of you to make such a comment. Thanks very much... :)

So, My free time has been reduced to just two days a week. I am once again a normal person working my tail off for the good of society. I can't believe that an entire month has gone by since my last update. Well with this one, We will see some pretty nice things.

I had to send my original Temp. Gauge to Abbott Instrument Restoration in Portland Or. and I must say that I'm well pleased with what came back. It needed quite a bit of work, but only cost $336.00 to repair. Some other places wanted to start at $450. and head skyward.

It needed a new Capillary Tube and Probe with Shield, some internal parts, a new Needle Rest and the needle had to be painted. I asked that the Face of the gauge not be restored because the original patina would be lost.
Image
Image

Abbott included a new brass head fitting. The one that I was temporarily using was steel and it could crack the head. I also had to remove the Steam Relief Tube plug and install it over #6 exhaust, which is where the tube is supposed to originate. I installed the probe and the Gauge, added some water to the radiator and fired up the engine for a temp. test.
Image

Now THAT, is a thing of beauty !!
Image

The exhaust manifold gasket blew out at Cyls. 2 and 3, so I'll be replacing it this weekend. Thanks for looking, more on the way.

Here are 2 videos I made of this effort.

I've been rather busy with work lately so I haven't really been able to a bunch of work on my truck. I did manage however to modify my voltage regulator and get it ready to install. Here are some photos and a video of what I did.

I was finally able to get my sandblast cabinet operational and sandblasted the original 6 volt regulator housing. I used VHT Wrinkle Paint, read the instructions on the can and finally got the correct wrinkle finish.
Image

As we all know, the Delco-Remy Regulator for the Chevy was not built to regulate 12 volts. I modified the housing to accept a modern 12 volt regulator. I have done this several times and it works out well in the end. I drilled and tapped the bottom of the housing in order to mount the new reg. to it.
Image

I unsoldered the original lugs that screw into the 6 volt reg. assembly and soldered new "Y" shape connectors to the backs of the bolts. They line up very closely but attention to detail is needed for the two outer connections. They have to be offset.
Image

With everything clean and ready to go, I can start the wiring process of my truck.

A little more forward progress yesterday. I removed the pintle hitch so I could clean it up and get it operational again.

With the truck engaged in low range 1st. gear and the parking brake set, I used some chains and my come-along to put some tension on the hitch.
Image

I had removed the nut and threaded it on the shaft backward so I could hit it with my 4 lb. sledge, which didn't work at all. I removed the nut and began tapping the "chin" of the hitch to the left and right, that got it to move.
Image

I had been trying to free the hitch up for the past 10 months or so, so lubricant had worked its' way through the sleeve. After a few minutes of tapping left and right, the truck rolled forward and the hitch slid free.
Image

The shaft looks pretty good, no appreciable rust. Its' just gonna need to be cleaned and lubricated again. After sandblasting the hitch, it'll be primed, painted and reinstalled.

I sandblasted the parts that make up the assembly and primed them yesterday. Today I painted them.

The weather has been warm here and very conducive to painting. The only difficult part was the bolt that keeps the pin in the release lever in place. It didn't really want to move but I coaxed it out.

Interesting observation- the mount hole in the fender for the little guide lights- All of my fenders use a Ford type base two holes per light??? I have to use Ford bases and GM light bodies. And my Dentist would like the pintle pull-out technique. Newc
