I appreciate You Ray, very kind encouragement. Just for that, here are a few more photos of things going back together for you.

I didn't have a 2 1/8" socket, so I purchased one.

Everything moves much easier now. It is surprising how just taking something like this apart, doing a quick clean up and repaint can return it to how it was designed to operate. Smooth and easily.

Hello Dave,

Very nice work !
You got that cat skinned 😁😁

Nothing is as easy as it looks, you did great getting that unit worked back into submission !

Excellent video , as always !
Very informative !

I have a CCKW coming in September that likely will need the same attention to the hitch.
Now I know how to do it 😁

Keep up your great work !

Best Regards,
Ray

Good to see that you continue to make progress. Just a little bit of work every day adds up fast. Removing the pintle can be a real bugger.

The front fenders on all of the trucks I have seen also had 2 holes for the blackout light, one for the bolt stud, and a much smaller diameter hole that aligned the BO light base.

It has been quite some time since I've posted anything about old 350793. Whether you have a 270, 261 or 235 in your Chevy, find and buy a few water pump replacements to have on hand. I have found that the 270 pump is becoming not only harder to find, but more expensive when one is found. I am planning on having the original one rebuilt so I can have a spare on the shelf. The '41 will be next for spare water pumps.

Hi Dave,

Very good advice !
I will get one once I get my CCKW engine turning.

I liked your video, excellent work and repairs on your truck !

That engine sounds great, and I am sure it appreciates the new water pump keeping it cool, and the new generator.

Keep up your great works !!

Best Regards,
Ray

Sorry Ray for not responding sooner, I have been absent from the G. Thanks for the kind word on my video.

Well, Gents, I have been blessed with a true barn find in the form of a wood CCKW Bed with troop seats, AND Troop Seats and Bows for a Chevy. I found the ad in FarceBeek Marketplace and the location was in Stanwood Wa. where the Stillaguamish River enters Puget Sound, about 85 miles north of me. I asked the property owner about the trucks, but was told that there weren't any when she purchased the farm 3 years ago.
She needed the parts to go away as they were in the way of her renovation. I called the guy who bought my 1945 auction G-506 and asked for help, I paid him with the Jimmy bed and troop seats for it. Everything had been in the barn for at least 75 years by our best guess, the amount of built up dust and Owl Poop.

Here's the bed and one side of the Chevy troop seats in the barn.
Image

The other troop seat, bows and troop seats for the Jimmy bed.
Image

Funny bow modification.
Image

Air Force Blue paint.
Image

I took the seats to the car wash and tried to clean them the best I could. There is so much dirt build up, this side actually looks green.
Image

This side doesn't look as bad, but it was.
Image

This is just after pressure washing them. Now the A.F. Blue can be seen.
Image
Image
Image

I was able to save ALL of the original fasteners as well. Here they are after being tumble cleaned, primed and painted.
Image

I have since taken the troop seats apart and sanded all of the paint down to bare wood. There was 1 layer each of Blue, O.D., Red Primer, O.D. again then some type of Purple Preservative as the first layer. All of the boards have been sealed with Teak Oil but a few more applications are needed before assembling the seats again. I must say that I'm very surprised at how well this stuff endured the test of time. The boards are still very solid and heavy. They are not badly cupped, bent or bowed.

Another great update Dave! Glad you were able to save the troop seats and rehome the bed too.

Thanks Kirk. I am a sucker for saving this old junk :).

Today was another bright clear and cold day with low humidity. I got outside and sprayed some Shade #8 (319) O.D. Green Alkyd Enamel paint onto the stanchions. By tomorrow the paint should be cured enough for me to slide them into the stake pockets in the bed. I want to get some more layers of Teak Oil on the boards before I install them on the stanchions. I still have 8 more steel extensions to prime and paint, but they can wait for a few more days.
Image

I will need to spray some more paint into the "U" channels of the seat arms and support legs. Having everything lying this close together hindered the application of paint a bit. I can hang them up after the stanchions are installed in the bed.

Hi
Just found your thread. Looks like I’ve got some studying to do. My G506 started as a cargo, got turned into a fire truck and now I’m returning it to a cargo truck. One quick question on your seat hardware, it appears that they may be identical to more modern (M35A2) seat hardware. If they are one and the same, I’ve got spares to make my set from. Can you tell if these are one and the same?

My troop seat stanchions are W.W. 2 vintage. One way to tell the difference is to look at the steel plate at the top. W.W. 2 stanchions have right angled corners, what is pictured here, while "M" series stanchions have radius corners and are rectangular. Post up a picture of yours and lets have a look, I'll be able to tell at a glance.

I installed the boards onto the stanchions today. Here are some photos and a video of that effort.

Today I fitted the Bow Corners and Top Bows to my truck. I had to cut the "M" series Bows done to 58" in length. The rest was pretty much straight forward and easy work to finish.

I'm champing at the bit to get the headboard finished and installed, that will make the bed look that much better. I'm thinking about using a vinyl top and end curtains from a later model M-35A2 during the winter. That way the rain and snow won't be so hard on the wood and its' finish.

Hi Dave; When you get your final top I hope you can afford the 'roll up' straps on it. My CCKW did not have the straps and it really hurt the parade appearance and the 'GI's wanted the sides rolled up. Newc

Hi Newc, I will be getting the top you have cited, I like the look of sides rolled up too. Right now I'm looking into a rubberized vinyl top to protect everything during the rain and snow season. I talked to a guy yesterday who has the Marine Corp. Camo Pattern tops for a pretty good price. Most folks won't know except we "purest snobs". :)
