I am putting together another run of stencils... do you want a set of 4-42?? Just checked, and it looks like I already have a set of 4-42. Let me double check...

Hi Kirk,
Did you say you were doing another run on the stencils? If so, are there plans for more of the 6-44. I would be interested in one if you do,
Respectfully, Dave.

Re: FS - Chevy G506 glass etching stencils
I know its been a couple of years since the last offering of glass etching stencils. I prefer to combine multiple jobs on a single sheet, and can create mutliple sheets should the interest warrant it. Glass production dates have been found to generally pre-date your trucks date of delivery by 1 to 3 months.
If you are interested in a set of stencils for etching the glass windows on your truck, please sound off here or via PM.
FYI, in the past the cost has been $25 USD shipped any where in the USA, or most anywhere in the world as they fit in a business class envelope. Price may need to be adjusted depending on current cost of laser cutting.

Re: FS - Chevy G506 glass etching stencils
Hello Kirk,
I have looked at what my closed cab CCKW shop van windows have for dates.
The data plate for the truck was missing when I got it, so I don't know that date of delivery.
Hopefully you can fill in the missing data based on your knowledge of window glass !!
So, the passenger side window has a date of 7-42. The driver's side has a date of
7-50. The front windshield glass have GMC marked window panes.
I don't know if maybe these were from a civilian GMC truck of the era ????
Or did GMC also make their own glass, as well as using LOF ?
Here are some pics : The GMC logo does look cool ! The rear window glass is not marked.
The serial number on the frame, towards the front of the rail, different than "normal " location is GMC CCKW 185888-2
So if we can figure it out I can get the stencils ordered !!!
Does anyone have any ideas on the date of delivery of this GMC Ordnance Shop Van ?
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: FS - Chevy G506 glass etching stencils
This might help you decipher your serial number and date: http://www.ww2cckw.org/the-gmc-cckw-tru ... formation/
I'm presuming that the 7-50 dated door window is a replacement.

Re: FS - Chevy G506 glass etching stencils
Hello Kirk,
Yes that 1950 window clearly is a replacement unit.
I have a couple nos ones I bought that are also dated 1950.
This truck came from the Bureau of Reclamation .
I also think it came back from Japan, as it has a rebuild data plate on the engine.
So either the truck was shipped back for the Dept. Of Recalamtion, or a new rebuilt engine was , and was at some point added to this truck.
I really like this shop truck !
But I must build a place to put it, before I restore it.
It is a tall truck !!
So the door and rafters will have to be 12 feet I am guessing for clearance.
I will go with the 7-42 on the passenger window, and try to find a truck in this range with the actual date of delivery.
I will ask Thierry in France as he has on the list that is close to mine, and is a closed cab cargo truck.
Just sent him a message, so should hear back soon
I am guestimating that based on the 1941 I have that has window dates od 9-41, and front windshield glass dated 11-41, and with a December, 4 1941 date if delivery, I can get the glass panes dates zeroed in, and place the stencil order
Maybe a 2 month difference between the front and side glass would be accurate ?
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: FS - Chevy G506 glass etching stencils
Early trucks tended to have different production dates for windshield glass versus the rest. Yes, often up to a couple of months difference. Laer trucks they seemed more likely to have the same dates for all glass, and usually 1-3 months prior to date of delivery.70th Division wrote: โMon Nov 08, 2021 11:00 am

Could you get me a nice straight on shot of the windshield etching, with a ruler lying next to it for scale? Thanks!

Re: FS - Chevy G506 glass etching stencils
Hello Kirk,
That is a great bit of knowledge for the GMC and Chevrolet owners.
Also it is a good way for someone to date their GMC or Chevy when missing the main data plate with the date of delivery.
That equation worked out on my 1941 CCKW, and I will apply it to the CCKW shop van.
Have you ever seen the GMC marked glass?
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: FS - Chevy G506 glass etching stencils
Ive seen the GMC logo on glass before, but no one has asked for stencils until now.
Just wanting to clarify something. Are you looking for two (2) sets of stencils? One for the cargo CCKW and another for the shop van? I currently have the artwork done for your cargo with the 11-41 windshield and 9-41 door and back glass.
The GMC logo for the shop van does not appear to be date coded. I can work on it as soon as you get me the photo with ruler that I mentioned.
I would recommend the same dates (7-42) for the door and back glass on the shop van.

Re: FS - Chevy G506 glass etching stencils
Hello Kirk,
That is great !!!
Thanks so much !!
Yes, I will order 2 sets, one for the 1941 Cargo, and another for the shop van truck.
The 7-42 sounds good for the shop van side and rear windows.
I spoke to Thierry in France, and he is checking with the European CCKW top expert to give me an idea of the date of delivery of the shop van. Once I get that, I will let you know and we can zero in on the
front windshield glass for the shop van.
It is a mystery on the GMC logos on the windshield glass.
I just wonder if that was original WW2 GMC marked glass, or was from a pre or post war
1941 or 1946 GMC civilian pick up truck ?
I does look cool if it was factory !!
I will get you measurements for it so it will be documented here on the G and for your own data base.
If you can make them, I will order some of them too
Best Regards,
Ray

Hello Kirk,
Here are some pics if the GMC branded windows on my closed cab shop van cckw with measurements.
It certainly is an interesting window marking !
Let me know if these pics are OK,
as I can take more if needed.
There are 4 cross bars in the GMC logo, and also there a 2 dots inside the square as well.
This pic shows the dots : This pic has length of the cross bars in the logo : Best Regards,
Ray

Thanks for the pics of the GMC logo. If you think you'll want them, I'll get started on the artwork. several of your pics should work for that.

Re: FS - Chevy G506 glass etching stencils
Hello Kirk ,
Let's go for it !!!
I will order a set of GMC stencils.
That way you will have the template to make more in the future if others need them.
I want to see what the Dodge half ton WC has for an emblem.
Also what the 3/4 ton WC might have. If they have makers marks, I would order a set each for them.
Also a mention, maybe half track windshield glass, M38A1 Glass, and the M201 Hotckiss French Jeep glass makers mark.
Likely not much interest in the French markings, but I would like a set as I have plans to build an M201, and a windshield I have has damaged glass, but a mark.
Here are some windshield makers marks on various vehicles I took pics of in my jeep barn.
Maybe some others would be interested in them.
I am thinking more research would be needed to confirm what people have on their vehicles.
I would be interested in the Dodge ones, if I can find them.
I will see if I can find some tomorrow on my Dodges that have any glass in them and get pics and measurements posted here for you to take a look .
This is on the passenger side windshield glass on my M16A2 halftrack.
Duplate This is on the driver's side halftrack windshield.
LOF This is on the M38A1 windshield.
I don't know if this is original oem, or a replacement.
Safetee Glass Kold Kut This is on an M201 Windshield that is on an MB that returned to the US from French surplus sale many moons ago !
It is dated 1960.
Triplex VTX
Just some interesting markings, that would be good to have if people really wanted that extra touch on their restorations
Best Regards,
Ray
