Re: READY FOR ORDERS G506, G508 firewall insulator pads
[quote="42cargo"... For the insulation material, these pads will use the same corrugated cardboard as the original G508 pad had. The expense for jute, plus the cost of cutting it, was too high to exactly replicate the original padding material. All the holes for all the variations will be pre-cut in the insulation pad. Once you have punched out the holes you need for your specific truck, you can then glue the corrugated cardboard to the outer shell prior to installation...[/quote]
John,
Thanks for all your work on this! Can you tell me if the pad has been sized to account for the thinner corrugated cardboard backer, or would it still accommodate a jute backer if I chose to replace the corrugated backer?
Thanks!

Kirk,
I believe it should accommodate the thicker jute.
John,
Thanks for placing your order.

Re: READY FOR ORDERS G506, G508 firewall insulator pads
I called Thursday 6-26-14 to Midwest Military/ Bizal and left a message on their machine, I didn't leave My credit card info though, I was hoping to talk to a person on the other end to confirm.
I Left my call back info, If they don't call I'll have to bug them again. It was 1200 hrs West coast time so I may have called at a wrong time for them to pick up.

You must have called just about the same time I placed my order. If John doesn't give you a shout back on Monday, try giving him a buzz again on Tuesday.

John,
Have you spoken to Midwest lately? How many orders do we lack before they will make a run? Come on guys we need to make this happen.

Re: ORDERS ARE SHIPPING G506, G508 firewall insulator pads
Just a heads up that I received my first two pads today. I hope to open them up and check them out this weekend. For those of you who ordered pads, you should be receiving your credit card receipt from the vendor in a separate letter and then the package arrives a day or so later. (At least that was my experience.)
I will post feedback on mine, along with photos, as soon as I can.

Re: ORDERS ARE SHIPPING G506, G508 firewall insulator pads
I still have not test fitted the new firewall pad, but did get around to dealing with split rivets. Having had no previous experience with split rivets, I figured the first step would be an internet search. Low-and-behold, I found a fellow "g" member has looked into this back on 2006 and I used some of his innovations. Thanks Gary!

I don't have a milling machine or forge so my version is crude in comparison but seems to do the job well. A section of used 0.625 spring U-bolt was sourced for the driver. I roughed out the two slots with some careful grinding and then finished it off with a 0.25 round file. No hardening was attempted, but from my test run I don't think it is necessary for the limited use it will see. The pictures tell the rest of the story, not bad for about 30 minutes of R&D.
An approximately 5 inch section of 0.625 round stock was used for the split rivet driver tool. Slots were cut using a side grinder and 0.25 round file
An un-driven split rivet on left, and driven rivet on right. Note that the rivet has the "rams horns" protruding to the washer firmly joining the two pieces of sample stock.
Firewall pad formed with temporary screws/nuts to hold in place for riveting.
It should be an easy job from here. If any of you all want to borrow my rivet driver let me know.
