FS: G506 1 1/2 Ton Chevy Truck Bed

Post by D6c » Thu Apr 08, 2021 12:58 pm

I have a pretty complete all-steel truck be for a 1 1/2 Ton Chevy G508
When I got it someone had welded it to a homemade trailer frame. I cut it loose from the frame and it's just sitting on it now.

Like most, the stake pockets need repair. I'm not sure, but it looks like someone may have done some repair on the inside corner at the front of the box at one time. It's somewhat pitted from sitting the the tongue on the ground, collecting leaves and water.

Located in southern Iowa ( I can load it on your trailer ) $1250

I was excited to see the Chevy box, but was perplexed by your comment about the bed corner. Looking more closely at your pics, I think someone shortened your bed as it only has 4 stake pockets rather than 5.

You're basically buying a pattern to copy.

I like it. No need to trailer it home, Just take a set of good tires/wheels and tow it home. Looks like it is the remnants of a complete truck that's been cut up into this configuration. I wonder what type of axle was used. Install the 6" stringers under the bed, then imagine what that would look like being towed behind a Chevy. OR, OR, OR if one finds a Chevy that's had the rear section of the frame shortened, use this bed for a 'bobbed' Chevy. :o :)

Well heck....I guess that falls under the "pretty complete" description.

Having nothing to compare it with I never noticed the length. It's obvious it's been shortened now. The tag reads nominal lengh of 108" but the box measures 7' (84"). That explains what looked like a repair at the front.
I wonder if they shortened it to fit the frame or to cut out a rusted out front end.

If nothing else it's got good parts on it or could be used as a trailer behind a G506 or G508.
I like the idea of a bobbed truck box if you have a shortened frame.

The frame is a home built unit with a rigid axle welded on. Don't know what type axle it is. I found it on craigslist a few years ago where it had been used as a firewood trailier for years.

This thing is great. I purchased another Chevy bed from a friend and I don't even have another truck to put it on. I asked a friend, jokingly, "what am I gonna do with it", and he replied "make a trailer with it" then tow it behind you Chevy. Only 2 short weeks later, you post this awesome find D6c. :)

Sounds like a plan....maybe find a military trailer with bad sheetmetal and make a matching trailer for your truck.

I'm going to have to rethink what to do with this bed now. I do need a tool box door for my CCKW box if they're the same, and tailgate handles.
Otherwise it's got a good tailgate and various small parts. Kind of hate to part it out because what's left won't be worth much to most folks.

Also, you have to watch out for dump vs cargo beds. Very similar, but different. Newc
