Unusual Half-tracks......

Post by Hardbird » Tue Jun 05, 2007 9:21 pm

Here are some neat pictures of former fire department half-track vehicles...possibly taken in the late 1960's or early 1970's.......I wonder what became of them?

Nice and shiny!

I think this one is exceeding the 4,500 lb. maximum towed load rating!

This winter on one of the GSA sells in the Northwest (Washinton State?). There was a truck for going up for acution, in the back ground was the front of a half track or a scout car. The vehicle was parked next to the truck being sold, but all you could see was the front armor, not the back. It was at a Forresty service lot because you could also see several vehicles.
It must have been turned in by a fire department because it was red in color.
One of the few, Frank

I have a few poor quality pictures of one identicle to the first picture that went through the Wisconsin federal properties program in the mid '80s. I recently talked to a retired employee of the program and he said it was a military conversion from WWII for airfield use, (I've no idea if that's accurate or where he got the information) and came from somewhere on the east coast. He thought it was purchased by a small fire dept. in the central part of the state. While it was in their yard, I was able to take it for a "test drive".

According to a worker at the Anderson In. Armor museum, there is a half track/firetruck still in use there. Jesse.
