Re: G503 Halftrack Database
This serial number 250319 does fall into the known range of M4 Mortar carriers and they all had the rear door and skate rail. I have seen several pictures of M4's with the skate rail and M49 ring but never a period picture just modern restorations like this one. White made all the M4's and M4A1's.

Re: G503 Halftrack Database
clintm20,
Thank you for the information.. This is what I was looking for. I would like to presume that the intent of the restoration when completed would have been for a Mortar carrier but the funds ran out and they stopped at a very modified M2A1 perhaps...
We really appreciate this information. We will now move forward with another one of our other vehicle anomalies..
Stay tuned...
Best regards and stay safe

Re: G503 Halftrack Database
Guten Abend John. Herzlich willkommen! Kevin Lockwood on this site would be my first stop for help in identifying a half-track. That frame number would not be correct for either an M2 or M3. If you could post some pictures it would be very helpful. There is a lot of help on this site and also over on halftrackinfo.com. Keep us posted. Good luck!

Re: G503 Halftrack Database
I use an IPhone so it could be different on Computer or android phone.
I click on reply, and then below the box I type this in, is a tab which says options. Next to the options tab it has an attachment tab. Click on the attachment tab and you should see a grey box saying add files.

Yes you can or I’m sure anyone would happily do the same.

The halftrack is in a barn and was bought by the fathers owner in 1947 from the US Army in Zeeland in the Netherlands.
The armour was removed.

There is no further Dokumentation available.
In Zeeland i heard were also canadians involved when they landed there..

Re: G503 Halftrack Database
My guess would be M2A1:
1. Bogie frame bracket assembly has hole in it which makes it a later model (track support wheel is late model as well);
2. On the pintle hook crossmember there are two holes in the bracket that connects the track adjusting idler shaft to the rear crossmember, these holes are used to support the two rear bumperettes. (picture for clarification).
3. I find it difficult to point out by frame number, you would say it would be Autocar but I believe it is supposed to have it's model nr. in front of its frame number. But the range of the frame number suggests it is Autocar M2(A1) and just lacks the model nr. in front. (Maybe stamping was done on Monday morning or Friday in the afternoon in this particular case....).
Looks like a solid project!

Re: G503 Halftrack Database
Hello Rob,
Thanks for the Info, that helps a lot.
So now i can try and find the armor
for the M2.
I have seen some pictures where it seems that the armor for the M2 on the topside can be folded down like the M16 armor.
Could be that i saw it wrong....
Pictures and Info are welcome
Thanks John

Re: G503 Halftrack Database
I have never the frame number stamped on the top of the frame, only seen them stamped on the side. Maybe the later ones had it stamped there, interesting to say the least.

Re: G503 Halftrack Database

Is there another place where a ( frame)number could for identification?
I havent found one.....
Thanks John

Re: G503 Halftrack Database
All I have ever seen were stamped in the side of the frame, not the top, below where you see your numbers, usually where the frame bends up to clear the front axle. That almost looks like it could be Ordinance number.
