Service question on M2A1

Post by tankjeepman » Tue May 14, 2019 12:17 pm

We are servicing a M2A1 owned by Cavanaugh flight Museum. We have replaced the oil in the front & rear axles and transmission. We need to do the transfer case as well. We have found what we think is the filler hole for the transfer case, but want to see if we can get any help to be sure. We think it is on the right side by the speedometer cable. We have removed the passenger footwell floor board, but it is behind a bracket and hard to see. Any help would be appreciated.

The transmission and transfer case are filled from the same location. There's one fill hole and each has its own drain plug.

So transmission and transfer share a connected reservoir? We drained and refilled the trans. Book says it takes 7.5 qt and the transfer takes 9. The transmission took about 5 qt and was full.

The transmission and transfer case together take 9 qts. if there is a power take-of, 7-1/2 qts. without a power take-off. If you only drained the transmission and not the transfer case, it might explain why it only took 5 qts.
