THE M-2 CLETRAC

Post by Joe Gopan » Wed Oct 24, 2018 2:52 pm

I remember CLETRACS at Dow Field during the late 40's thru around 1952. The 14th Fighter Group used them thru 1949 and the IOWA-NEB ANG had them during their Korean War activation . The rubber tracks made them a quiet vehicle, what I remember most was the noisy air compressor mounted on them. The Clectracs and Clarktor tugs passed 20' from our business many times a day. The 14rg FG Cletracs were WWII OD and those of the Iowa ANG were yellow.

Jerry Biro might be able to help with some parts. Only other one I have seen restored belonged to a friend.

Only item I am missing is the upper engine side panels. I have a detailed pattern made from the original so that I can reproduce them but would love an original set of anyone can help.

Wow,I wish mine looked like that! I need to pull the engine to do machining work on it, it was left open too long. I need many parts too!!
If you find side panels, let me know, I am looking too, or something to make a repro out of.
Looks great!
Still crazy after all these years.

I'll be curious to see how it goes - let me know if you need any updates to those prints I traced out ;)

Life's been a bit busy here taking on the USCG-11/CG-83366 Cutter project but sometime you just have to take the plunge

Best wishes

Matt

Join the club - I also have 4 machines and am missing all the parts you listed (except battery covers, got one good one and one with a torch hole in it)...

All the parts you listed are like hens teeth - pretty much have to find a parts machine with them on it - seems like the stuff never turns up loose...

I've been looking for several years now without much luck

Found a pair of early compressors in Belgium with a different outlet casting and no intakes but that's as close as I've come - two machines in the SW got scrapped with 4 cylinder compressors on them prior to anyone pulling them.

Scott was generous enough to gift me a hose reel that he had extra in exchange for making the prints for the side panels but I have no bottles or regs for that side...

Tool box and energizer parts are hard to find too
