Looking for T-24 Weasel engine
Hello
Working on restoring a T-24 Weasel. The current engine is blown and it needs to be replaced. Anybody out there know where there may be whole engines for these? Can another engine be dropped in that is more current?
At this point I am stumped an need help. I've tried 3 local mechanics here in Vermont and they want 6-8k to start work on it without any guarantee they can even find parts.
Thanks...
Kevin

Re: Looking for T-24 Weasel engine
Hello Kevin,
Welcome to the G503 !!!
I am certain they are around, and I think they are the same as a Studebaker Champion car engine.
I think they are far more plentiful .
They should be able to drop right in, with maybe a few bolt on items.
6 to 8 K, they are nuts !!
Contact David Yamulla to see if he has the engine parts you need for a rebuild, or even a take out engine.
http://www.militaryvehiclesupply.net/contact
Here is a block on ebay that "MIGHT" be the same and can be rebuilt
if you have the other parts on your engine.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/38-39-40-41-42 ... Sw241Yh45u
I have recently bought a Weasel, but haven't looked at any engine stuff yet.
Others with knowledge should be able to chime in,
and keep looking on ebay and craigslist for engines or parts weasels.
Post some pictures of your weasel !!!
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: Looking for T-24 Weasel engine
After doing some research to insure that the 6-170 Champion engine is the same as the automobile engine, You might try to locate a local Studebaker club or regional club or a national website and search their forums and classifieds.
What little I know about the Weasel is that it took the Champion engine, but I don't know if that is a Studebaker name for a specific engine or if it just refers to the powerplant that was available in the Champion car.
The 6-170 designation stands for six cylinder, 170 cubic inches.
I have also heard of Weasels running around with Ford pinto engines or the Chevy 235 engine which was a straight six, but a GM block, not a Studebaker blaock.
For $6k, I'll get it running for you!

Re: Looking for T-24 Weasel engine
Hello
Thanks for the help so far. David Yamulla at militaryvehiclesupply has been very helpful. He is getting a Weasel restored too.
I have not found a replacement Studebaker engine yet (still hunting). The other engine types sound interesting. I actually looked at one w/ a Pinto engine last year, but they cut out the engine compartment to get it to fit and moved the gas tank. Don't know if it was by choice or need.
GA is a little far for me to bring it or I might take you up on the offer.
Thanks
Kevin
