I can't wait to watch the photos you are going to post of the bumper number uncovering. That would be soooo cool to see two vehicles tagged to the same unit found near where you live. History is great. Good luck and post often.

Re: T-24 Weasel Found and Recovered !
Please post a photo of the body plate and factory build plate as T-24 production serial numbers stopped at serial number 1003 (I own T-24 S/N 991) when they started M-29 production.
It also looks like your body had the side skirts (removed) for the larger 20" tracks.

Re: T-24 Weasel Found and Recovered !
Hello Van,
Certainly, but first I want to thank you for your service to our country !!
I do not yet have the rebuild data plate, or any data plates yet
other than the Norwegian shift data plate.
I will call the former owner tomorrow, to see if he has found it yet.
He told me it was a rebuild data plate for being rebuilt in Germany.
As far as the side skirts, I was wondering if they were added on in Norway,
the welds look like pretty "non factory" tack welds unless that is
how they did them.
Didn't T-24's not have the skirts ?
Here is the Hull data plate :
Best Regards,
Ray

Hello Van,
Here is a pic of the Norwegian shift data plate that came with the Weasel.
Note the white paint on the corners of the plate.
The weasel was painted white at one point.
Best Regards,
Ray

This is really interesting Ray, keep us posted on your progress. You are absolutely correct about the Norwegians. They really looked after their equipment and vehicles. I used to own a Willys MB, ex Norwegian army, they even undersealed it. I still have the Norwegian data plates somewhere.

Re: T-24 Weasel Found and Recovered !
Hello Mark,
Yes I will !!
I would be thrilled to get an ex-Norwegian jeep someday ! I will keep looking, I know they are out there in the USA.
They maintained them like no others
My once rusty ugly bucket Ex-Norway Dodge WC55/WC52 wasn't pretty when I found it rotting away into oblivion with the torch cutters literally moving down the line to get it and 3 others (they were all recovered) as the junk yard property was cleared after being sold.
Fortunately ...... Everything mechanical had been rebuilt by the Norwegians , and parts all had blue tags on them.
The thing needed plugs and wires, and I rebuilt the carb and fuel pump.
It started right up like magic !!!! Fortunately the plugs hadn't rotted through to let water into the cylinders
It is still under restoration, but will be finished as soon as its new storage barn is finished
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: T-24 Weasel Found and Recovered !
Ray, when i got my ex Norwegian jeep, i was told that a lot of American WW2 vehicles were kept in a huge underground storage system (maintained by the Norwegians), in readiness for the Cold War. Im not sure if this is true or not, but its an interesting story. Here in England, when they phased out steam locomotives, they kept some in a place called "Burlington Bunker". These were in readiness for the Cold War. When the threat of Nuclear war ended, they cut them up for scrap.

Re: T-24 Weasel Found and Recovered !
Hello mark,
Let's hope we find some bunkers like that !!!
It is a shame that they cut up things like that, I know for a fact that as of 2007-2008 when I was Germany, that
the USA DRMO in Germany would chop up all ex-WW2 vehicles, including trucks and German "trophy" ack-ack guns that
were turned into the disposal system.
It was a "new" "US Government decree from DC" that ordered the senseless destruction of important WW2 history.
The German US DRMO chief I spoke with told me that he encouraged units to keep the items, or try to transfer them to other bases to avoid the mandated destruction.
He said one place still had a CCKW training device truck, that he wanted to save from the cutter.
The German gun that had been recently turned in was cut up and destroyed.
I hope with the changes in DC for the better, the decree or regulation will be eliminated.
DRMO said it was Very discouraging having to destroy WW2 era US and German equipment from base closures.
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: T-24 Weasel Found and Recovered !
Ray, i know were going off the Weasel theme slightly, but in the Channel Islands the German artillery was everywhere. It is still evident today. There is a place on the North of Jersey called "Les Landes". If you look over the cliff, there are a couple of dozen German 88 atillery guns. You can climb down to them at low tide. There is still paint on some of them, the sea hasnt really rusted them. Also the Germans constructed over 40 underground tunnels on Jersey. After the war, they bunged all the German equipment in them and sealed them up. Some remain sealed to this very day.

Re: T-24 Weasel Found and Recovered !
Hello Mark,
That sounds like an adventure du jour !!!!
A few years ago my father and I were sailing down the Solent River from South Hampton , and into the channel on the way to Cherbourg, France on the Queen Mary 2, (the only way to go from the USA to Europe and back !) where we saw some nice coastal defense installations that still had the deck guns mounted on them.
They were great to see, and I hope they get preserved every now and then.
The guns on the channel islands would be a fun project to recover, and would great on our front laws
Best Regards,
Ray

Hello,
Here are a couple photos of the T-24 weasel tow hitch.
The hitch looks the same as used on a Willys MB . This one has a safety cotter pin installed. Note T62 and Foundry mark.
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: T-24 Weasel Found and Recovered !
Hello,
Here are some markings of a Norwegian Rubber Factory that at one point made new rubber track bands for
Weasels in their military forces, that look like the original US style.
I wonder if there are any supplies left in Norway that are available today ?
If not, I am going to use the conveyor belt repair process for these tracks, that are rough !
Note the part numbers and such, the numbers that look like dates, clearly are not.
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: T-24 Weasel Found and Recovered !
Hello,
The Mjondalen Rubber Factory was located in Mjondalen, Norway.
It was bought by Viking Rubber Company at some point.
Viking ,we recognize as the maker of the nice Clover Leaf Pattern treads for Dodge WC vehicles used in Norway.
One of my Ex-Norwegian WC55/52 still has two of the Viking tires on it.
They certainly did last the years
I wonder if the company is still in business in Norway, and if they still make Weasel track bands ?
Or if they or someone there has the tooling to make them?
I read online somewhere that there were some being made in Norway, but they are not available to the USA.
Sounds hard to believe, but maybe that could be the case, just don't know.
It would be nice to be able to read and speak Norwegian
Best Regards,
Ray
