CLARK AIRBORNE DOZER CA-1 Parts Information
I have noticed that there are a handful of folks working on CA-1 restorations. Information on parts for them is rather hard to come by. In an effort to begin a thread of common info I'm creating this post. I'll begin posting infomation as I find it. I had a pretty crappy manifold that had a pound of JB weld on it. I was able to locate a replacement, newly manufactured from Rusty Acres. The owner is great to deal with.
Rusty acres: 507 433 0073
I'll post a photo of the manifold soon.

Looking for Amp, temp and pressure gauges for the CA-1
Can someone post a photo of original gauges so I can see the details of the gauges?
Thanks

Re: CLARK AIRBORNE DOZER CA-1 Parts Information
My CA-1 has an aftermarket 12v alternator. I don't like the way it looks and have been burning up the phone and email lines trying to come up with an alternative. The CA-1 parts manual lists a GBU4209 6v agenernator. No one seems to know what that is. I even have a WWII Autolite TM and there are no GBU series generators.
I called Harvey Brothers, and old establishment in IL who has a long family history of rebuilding old generators and starters. They do it old style. They could not find anything on the GBU either, but think they can put something together that would look the same, provide proper output and it would be an Autolite. If anyone else ins interested in their assistance call:

Re: CLARK AIRBORNE DOZER CA-1 Parts Information
Distributor Cap Question: Which one is correct? I've found a few listings for FC engine distributors, generally the IGW series distributor comes up. There are two caps referenced on various forums discussing restoration of FC 151 engines. The two caps listed are:
AL 352 (ordered through NAPA)
AL 137 and Cover for AL137
These caps should also come with a cover that screws down over the plug wires which are simply pressed onto pthe ignition prongs. Does anyone have a photo of the distributor, the Autolite dataplate to compare to?

Re: CLARK AIRBORNE DOZER CA-1 Parts Information
Okay you CA-1 owners. Here's another mystery. Where does one find the distributor spring clips to hold down the cap. It seems evryone makes the clips and brackets for the Delco caps, but no one carries those for the Autolite distributor. The parts dealers all say they will not fit on the Autolite version. NAPA has the cap and cover (AL 352 and AL353) but cannot find the clips.
Does anyone have the dimensions for the spring clips and brackets? I'll need to take the dist out next weekend and post some photos of everything I've found so far. What model distributor is everyone running in their WAukesha engines? I have an IGW4301.
Thanks

Re: CLARK AIRBORNE DOZER CA-1 Parts Information
i don't have a photo yet, but here is what the manual shows. They look like standard mil spec WW2 gauges. It matches the photos on one other website photo (edited by oz to change the words from "syltech site") with the exception of the temp gauge which looks civilian.17thAirborne wrote:Looking for Amp, temp and pressure gauges for the CA-1

Re: CLARK AIRBORNE DOZER CA-1 Parts Information
5 different images of various Clark photos on the web. From these its still difficult to tell what's original equipment and what's aftermarket replacement. The 2nd photo seems to have Amp and Oil as NOS WW2 and an aftermarket temp gauge. The others are all over the target.
I'm confused.

Re: CLARK AIRBORNE DOZER CA-1 Parts Information
Got the distributor out. Took about 30 minutes given the tight squeeze between the engine and the frame of the blade. Here are a few shots of the removal operation.
Photo 1: Before the operation. Wrong distributor cap and very dirty. And yes Virginia...that is chicken sh!# on the top of the cap. The dozer was the favorite sunset roost of the former owner's chickens. They marked their territory.
Photo 2: Inside guts...rusted through. No wonder there was no spark I sure have my work cut out for me
Photo3: Post operative...the data tag is obliterated. I hope this is an IGW-4301.

Re: CLARK AIRBORNE DOZER CA-1 Parts Information
G503 member W. Winget just sent some great drawings of the spring clips for the distributor. It's details like these that make life easier for us laymen trying our first restoration. Thanks very much for the drawing

Oz,
Did the locating groove on your new cap match the old one.
The cap I bought under that number did not. It looks like I am going to have to Dremel cut it.
