Apparently the airborne ones did not have the crash bars fitted .
Think the clamp on top of the head stock is so when loosened the handle bars can go parallel with the motorbike to save space like no front crash bars.
Military ones had a higher air intake .
Not to many ww2 pictures of them I also have not seen the one you posted

Hello Steve;
I comfirm, the photo is from the time, i just found it
I knew that the Simplex had been used in small numbers by the American chaplains in Holland during the Market-Garden operation.
Now, i know that there is at least one Simplex used on the ground in Normandy in the days following June 6th
