Awesome job! Welcome back and congrats on the soon to be new baby, too. Sounds like you're going to have your hand full, but hopefully you can still keep chipping away on the ole Harley!

Re: 42WLC build
Painted my fenders yesterday, used a small amount of filler mostly to hide anything that I did as a repair. I didn't go crazy on fixing dents same as I did with my willys because I wanted to show her age. Quickly put them somewhat on today just to look at it don't have any of the correct hardware yet
Next I need to clean the inside of my gas tank. Its not terrible but definitely needs to have some rust knocked out. When taking the fuel shut off out it was rusted sold and snapped. I drilled the stuck part out as thin as I could then then used a file to get closer to the threads. I then used a punch to hit it and dent the thin threads and it came out! Used a 3/4-18 tap to chase the threads
Any one have a good way to clean out the inside of the tank?

Re: 42WLC build
Sitting in labor and delivery at the moment waiting for our little girl to come!!
but before we got here today I got my gas tank cleaned of rust. I decided to try out a method I found online that only cost about $25. The Works toilet bowl cleaner.... It contains hydrochloric acid. I used 6 bottles and tried to use a 1:1 ratio bowl cleaner/water but fell a little short and used a little bit more water so I just let it sit longer. After 2 days I drained the cleaner out into a tub and washed out the tank and scrubbed it with a wire brush I screwed to a piece of meal. I then pored the cleaner back in for another 24 hrs drained it again hosed the hell out of it, pored in some baking soda to neutralize the acid, washed it again, dried it with a heat gun and sprayed wd40 inside to stop any flash rusting.
Very happy with how it came out!

Re: 42WLC build
Hello,
Thanks for posting !!
First congratulations to you and your wife and your baby girl
God Bless and protect you and your family !!!
Your tank looks great and I watched the video,
I may try this on my M38A1 gas tank with the nasty brown sludge in it.
A guy had driven by a month ago and said they used to use Pine-sol to clean dirty gas tanks.
Maybe I will do that first, then use the Works to clean out any rust residue like you did.
Very informative post,
Your bike is coming along great, just like your Jeep !!
Best Regards,
Ray

When I got home from the hospital Tuesday waiting for me in the mail was this B1tchin CA 42 plate from by best friend (said it was a push present for me lol) now I can reg it as year of manufacture and my parkerizing kit! I have a ton of parts ready and prepped like fork springs, rockers, pedals, ex... So hopefully this week I'll slip out into the garage for a bit and give it a go! I cant wait to get my front end completed.

Congratulations to your family. Question: Does that bow come in Olive Drab (or HBT)? You could make a fortune!
Good health to you and Happy Easter,

Re: 42WLC build
Thanks everyone for all the congrats shes been amazing!
Yesterday I had some time to parkerize all my parts. I was surprised on how easy it was even though everything I read online seemed straight forward.
sand blasted my parts cleaned them and used a big stainless pot on my BBQ outside so that I didn't have to worry about fumes. The directions on the bottle said keep the solution between 175*-200* which was easy and I kept another big pot on the side of hot water to rinse after a 20 min bath. I read that you can then dump the parts in heated oil to finish them off but my kit came with a neutralizing oil so I just used that let them soak and rubbed it all in. After that I decided to get my springer together, the inside rocker nuts are wrong so I ordered new ones last night and will change them out.
Oh and also scored some tires... they aren't name brand but at $40 each I'll run the hell out of them 4.2x18

Re: 42WLC build
Had a very productive week! Started out with trying to prep and clean my oil tank so that I could paint it and the gas tank. While looking it over I found a really random hole at the bottom of the tank so I stripped it and welded that up. I decided to keep the ol girls age so like the fenders I left the small dents and once shes stenciled and dirty she'll be looking proper. I also got my hub shim kit in the mail so I packed my hubs and got the wheels on my truing stand and the tires on! Very happy with how its coming out!

Got a few things done this week since I got some parts in the mail. I hung my air cleaner and the air cleaner crash bar, got front and rear fenders attached with correct hardware, and got my throttle/timing cables and spirals on.
It was also brought to my attention that I had the wrong shift gate on the bike but instead of buying a new one I just modified the one I had

I also got my drum lugs in the mail this week because the bike didn't come with any. I scored this NOS correct grooved set but the seller didn't say in /the post that they were the over-sized "S" lugs. I decided to drill out my drums and use the 7/16 x 20
