Harley WLA carburettor?
Can you identify this carb fitted to my MkIII Harley. I think it's an Indian, the top photo is stamped M6A and behind it I think it's stamped Indian? Was this fitted as a transferable item? Should I fit a correct carb in which case where can I get the correct carb?
The reason I ask is that I can only keep the engine running on full choke, which makes me think I have a blocked jet or the carb doesn't run with this engine.
Any comments or help welcomed, thanks Andy

Andy,
That carb M6A Linkert comes up as for a 1931-38 Indian Chief's.
The correct carburetor for your bike is a Linkert M88 all WLA's used that carb, I would put the correct carb on it if it were my bike.
As for not running right? Could be a blocked filter? or gas line start there first as it's not getting enough gas as you know.
I always rebuild those used carbs.

Have checked and cleaned fuel line, filter etc, going to strip the carb and check the jets as was last used with old fuel on reserve so probably picked up dirt. However I'm wanting a correct M88 as I can't sleep knowing I've got a wrong carb!

I found these two on the fleebay
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Harle ... :rk:8:pf:1
OR
https://www.ebay.com/p/1937-52-Harley-F ... 100623.m-1
For now..I'd clean this carby out, remove the plugs and blow it out...it should be fine.
M88's are plenty around.

Thanks Craig for the advice. The one carb you recommend has a long choke lever, which I thought was a civilian model? Am I right in thinking a military carb has a short choke lever. Problem I have is USA is so far from the UK and I hate paying import duty....

Andy, those chokelevers are easily exchanged.

Although the mentioned carb has a long civvy lever, the carb itself is military.

Here's another:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/LINKERT-M88/11 ... 0012.m1985
Although it seems only the housing and venturi are OEM and the rest is repro, the carb should be useable.
Exchange the chokelever and the highspeed-jet for a fixed one, and you're good to go.
You should, if you have the change Andy, visit one of Holland's swapmeets: M88 housings and/or complete carbs are easily found over here.
Like next May, see pic below; it's at the American Motorcycle Museum in Raalte (https://goo.gl/maps/WKxuVgavPb82)...plenty of parts around.

Re: Harley WLA carburettor?
Thanks for the heads up. Love to go, but I've already booked my ferry to Normandy commemorations on the 23rd in May,( I'm going early so as to have a play before it gets crowded!) so I will need to see if I can alter the ferry crossing.
I've ordered the carb and waiting to hear about the short choke lever. In the UK we pay import duty form US which really hikes the price.
Regards Andy
