Re: Bicycle collection
Where is the serial number? I didn't notice one yet, but the frame is coated with several layers of paint and crud. I paid $700 for this bike, which seemed high to me when I first thought of getting it, but seems like a bargain now. It has a BSA crank, but regular pedals instead of the sliding footpegs-I will have to get some close-up pics of them to make some up. It has a rather unusual aluminum center stand on it,too. Not original, but it looks quite useful. It will probably get a coat of OD.
Edit: serial # R35397

Re: Bicycle collection
Travelfix, you weren't kidding about megabucks for the parabike tyre pump! There was one on eBay, and I bid it all the way up to around 230 GBP,but still I got beat! I really don't understand why the bikes used a pump that was longer than the ones on the BSA motorcycles, but they must have had some reason.

Re: Bicycle collection
Come to think of it.....I just may have a pump ( made in England ) somewhere. Let me look around. I may have sold it years ago. I know I have a pump or two buried in the garage, but not sure if they are correct for the BSA paratrooper bicycle. Let me look around.

Re: Bicycle collection
The chain is still soaking in kerosene, but otherwise, my BSA is back together again. The seat is not correct (it's a Brooks instead of a BSA), and the cranks are postwar BSA, so they are not setup for the sliding footpegs-I just mocked up some pedals that look pretty close at first glance. The tires are some '50s Goodyears I had. Again, not correct, but better looking than new ones.

Re: Bicycle collection
Bicycle looks in really nice shape. What color paint and from what manufacturer did you use. A few more items and the bike will be complete. Nice job. I checked and I don't have a pump that goes to this bike. So.....the search goes on.

Re: Bicycle collection
I've got a British-made pump coming from eBay now-probably postwar, but the right length and general appearance. The paint is krylon from the car parts store. It is close enough for now, but there is a patch of original paint under one handgrip to use for a match at a later date . I wasn't too pleased with the repop decals-the piled arms and the patent label were white on my bike, and these are gold.

Re: Bicycle collection
Something to note in the future if you restore your bike again. The seat stem/post should be black. On the three examples I had a satin black was the closest shade.
I would have to look through my old photos again, but one of my bikes had silver text, but this is only going from memory from 10 years ago. I will try to look. At the time I couldnt find any so I went with gold.

Johan,
Serian number on the Huffman is H126040. Other than the date and a number 3 stamping, that's all I can find.
