I had my gas tank professionally chemically stripped and I just got it back. It now has no paint and no rust.
There are several large dents on it. One looks to be patched with jb weld. tTe leg pads are missing from the tank and the holes are filled.
How should I go about repairing this tank? Should I send it off to a company that restores motorcycle gas tanks to get the dents out?
Can I purchase reproduction or original pads?
Thanks for any help.
I have some photos of my M20 and I will try to post photos soon.

The pads are still available. Get the tank out and use a chemical afterwards that insures yout tank won't rust aanymore and that seals all the smaller leakes.

Brennon,

Here is a good tool to take out dents:

http://www.eastwood.com/autobody/dent-r ... ystem.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Not sure if you want to spend the $210 for it, but you might be able to find a auto-body shop locally that has this and
can do the repair on your tank.

Gas tank question:

where can I find original or reproduction leg pads for my gas tank? Also should the brass handle on the top of the gas tank lid be painted?
Thanks,
Brennon
P.S. I will try to post photos soon.

Brennon,

Finding a nice original knee pad rubber set is getting hard. They had metal support plates in them. Here is a
nice set of repros on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/BSA-M20-M21-M33-TAN ... 19b7303427" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Metal supports:

As for the gas tank cap handle, it was not painted, but dull chromed / cadmium plated. There are some
companies that can do the dull chrome today. This is my cap, dull chromed by a company in Kent, England:

As a new BSA M20 owner, this was a super helpful thread. Thank you!
