Had the same problem, tried nylon gear, wore away fast. Used brass gear, it pulled off of shaft, Finally found this guy on Ebay who makes the gear out of a fiber/plastic? type material. So far I have put 300 miles on it and no problem. I noticed as the gear wore out my speedometer needle would bounce before it stopped working. Here is his add on Ebay ... R878kdPQYw
