1st gear grinding, WLA Harley
Hi all, on my WLA, to get it in to 1st gear, it is grinding. I do have the throttle set very low. Is this Is a clutch adjustment? Or or more of an adjustment on the foot peddle cable? thanks, Rob

It can be simple or hard. It would be hard to say exactly where you need the adjustment. ie, Spring pack spring height correct, clutch rod adjusted for correct distance to disengage the clutch plates. Cable adjusted correctly to fully go over center to allow clutch rod to separate plates completely. The final one requires that the battery box comes out and the tranny top comes off and you check to see is shift drum is worn or not engaging correctly or that your shift forks are not properly shimmed. I know it's a lot, a manual would help. You'll get there. Remember there is no syncro for first gear. It will not engage while the bike is in motion.(grind like hell).

These old bikes have old arcaïc technics.
None of the gears are synchronized, so between disengaging the clutch and putting the lever in gear...give the box some time to adjust to the new situation..(read stand still).
Never shift in a hurry, just lay the lever against a selected gear and wait until you feel the cogs engaging.
