20" rims on a DUKW?
I am looking into finding another set of rims for my DUKW. What have people fitted to theirs? What is commonly available?

we got michelin wheels. 10x20. drive mutch better than the originals. the michelines are more flexible. for example you can drive much better on the edge of the road when passing somebody. with the original getting on and of the asfalt was more rough and less accurate.
the tire says
Michelin
10.00 R20 XL
20 type XL
the rims are from a Bolster truck

Re: 20" rims on a DUKW?
As I have enough 18" rims and (Gama Goat) tires I'm shy of trying anything until I get mine restored.
Thinking about it (and having a M931 5 ton laying around the yard), the Super Singles on the 5T series might fit under there but I doubt it would turn well, or the new FMTV truck series, as they have the ten bolt hole setups. So in the US at least there would be plenty of available split rims (Old M52 series and M800 series 5 tons) in mil tread pattern if desired, but really a common School Bus 20" tire and rim setup would work, depending on the bolt pattern. Some may be 22", have to check that, but 20" rims are plentiful out there.
Not sure how long a split rim will last if exposed to saltwater, but it's likely longer than the hull.
Those Michelins look nice, something like the LAVs had that people were swapping the M37 truck rims out for.

You ask a question and some people put effort in it to reply. one month later no response back?
You don`t have to reply but i don`t think it helps a forum if everybody would do it this way.

Re: 20" rims on a DUKW?
From his previous posts, we find he's in Australia, bought a DUKW without an Engine trans for $100, and is considering placing a Ford 300 Inline 6 into it.
Issues I see are:
Cooling (Fan blows out on DUKW)
Matching Power Takeoff issues with transmission selection for the 300CI engine,
Originality: If it's not original, why not go with a Diesel making it water resistant and drastically improving fuel storage and Fire safety.
Taller tires may help land speed, but they also reduce ability to gear down and crawl out of water if needed.
Original treads were 12 ply to avoid punctures, something to consider if replacing with thinner walled tires.
As to why they (any poster) does not respond, it's anyone's guess.

In europe i think you can find them. With the Michelin.
Not sure in usa.
I just posted a search request on a dutch classified site and within 2 weeks i had 7 foor 700 euro with tires.
But it is difficult to find what the type is.
Maybe the specialised shops know

You can use my pictures and post them also on milweb or a more frequent visited part of this site for more info on the wheels.
