Sorry for this stupid question, but then again my grandfather said that there was never a stupid question, I am wondering if the G501 DUKW and the G508 CCKW have the same engine at all?? Just curious to some of the parts that I have laying around would fit both of the machines, thanks for your time in this...

Long Blocks are the same. DUKW uses same shallow oil pan as early CCKW.

Hi Bryan,
As Joel says, the base engine is essentially the same. Just some of the add-ons, like the aforementioned oil pan, are different.
Do you have a copy of ORD 9, SNL G-508 ? It is the parts manual for the CCKW. In the front of the manual, there is an engine interchange chart showing the different variations of each engine, along with the parts required to reconfigure each to a specific variation. Subsequent pages detail the parts included for each conversion.
According to the chart, there were four variations of the 270 used in the DUKW.
Looks like primarily minor differences like water pump, compressor drive, etc.
Best Regards,
Bob

I have to get my hands on ORD for the CCKW. I mean I do have a lot of misc parts for the CCKW and I would like to identify more of what I have at some point. But that is going to have to wait to next year at some point, but I will keep searching for a CCKW parts book, I wonder are they hard to come by, and Merry Christmas mudflap and I hope you are doing well and look forward hopefully to a better year next year, and thanks for sharing this information with me. I am a rookie like I said before and anytime I can learn the better my mind gets...
