Aqua Cheetah!

Post by Chris Olson » Sat Nov 19, 2011 10:03 am

I was playing around looking at pictures from a powerwagon Hauler service and I spotted this rare gem....
I wonder how many others there could be?

They are about as rare as hen's teeth. I believe there were only about 13 ever manufactured. There are two known to exist, and both belong to Dan Janquitto in Island Heights, NJ.

My father worked for this outfit during the war. Vehicles were built in Buffalo, NY, At a small plant located at 988 Ellicott St. Dad was in charge of manufacturing. Charlie Thomas was chief engineer. My parents lived in an apartment upstairs. This facility was at the rear of the building belonging to the notable Brunn Carriage Mfg., builders of high-end custom auto bodies. After the war, many of the players at this site went on to form Playboy Motorcar, mfg'rs of early compact autos.

Not to be confused with the Jordan Playboy of the 1920s.

These were built using Dodge 1/2 ton radio cars for parts. The cars were disassembled to build these.

Just an FYI, I hauled this Aqua Cheetah fro Dan Janquitto back in 2010. It was in the woods with trees growing through it. Dan decided not to restore it and display it at the Military Technology Museum of New Jersey.

A few years ago, someone in California found a bunch of photos and was trying to identify them. He posted an Aqua Cheetah but didn't even know what the photo was. I happened to see it and with the help of Dan, we determined it was Aqua Cheetah #1 which is the same one I pulled out of the woods!
