T HANDLE PARKING BRAKE

Post by dpcd67 » Wed Sep 23, 2020 9:53 am

I want/need a T handle parking brake for my 1964 M606; the one in it is gone and they seem hard to fine. Must be one out there somewhere, or someone can recommend a substitute.

To me, this is one of those frustrating things where replacements aren't readily available. In a lot of cases, that T handle breaks so a replacement is needed. Many vendors offer the cane handle but not the T handle.

M606's were built by Kaiser, https://cj3b.info/Military/M606Specs.html, so this hand brake handle should be the same as a late model CJ-3B. My late model Service Manual shows that T handle on both CJ-3B and CJ/DJ-5 models with different front mounting brackets.

Perhaps this could be similar to an M38A1, I don't know.

Yes my M606 is a Kaiser; it is supposed to have the T handle brake. And essentially is a militarized CJ3B. Just not 24 volt is the basic difference. Simple WW2 type push pull light switch. Military lights and BO lights and markers. Rifle rack is on the floor like on a Dodge WC. Tow hooks, bumperettes. Rear mounted tire and gas can. Pioneer tool indents on right side. Fold out windshield, which are super rare; otherwise a CJ3B.
Not the same as one on the 38A1 though. Those are levers under the dash; not the straight pull type. Right now it is in 1000 pieces.

The CJ-5 T handle is under the dash. Okay, that helps visualize it. I did notice a different bracket.

A possibility would be Harry Sheets, http://www.midwestwillys.com/, who may run across those from time to time. Good luck.

Do you have a picture of the one you are looking for? maybe next to a tape measure, had a few t handles last year, will look to see if they are still there.

They are the same length as the cane handle ones, but the ratchet and bracket is different, and they have a round plate that is on the dash. Cables they make.

I called MMW, and PdB, neither has them and said they are impossible to get.
I'll just hand forge one.
