L134 bogging
Hey G!
Recently my cj2a just started acting up. The other day i was crusing down the road and all of a sudden it was acting like it was running out of gas and shut off started back up ran about 20 yards and died. After it sat it started back up and ran great until it reaches running temp then starts starving for fuel again. I have checked for trash in all jets and it still bogging. Seems like the fuel pump is working fine. I thought about vapor locking but ruled that out also. Any ideas? I will try to add a video.
This video is taken after running it down the road and back a few times then pulled back into the shop.

Good article which may help:
https://www.onallcylinders.com/2015/11/ ... your-carb/
The TM's have excellent troubleshooting guides, you can focus on Carb, plenty of fuel in pump, likely metering rod or float level, but I didn't see the heat riser valve under the carb manifold (if it was moving)

Re: L134 bogging
Air bubbles in the fuel pump = air infiltration somewhere in the line. Correct observation by Winget - Where is the PCV? Bogging down? The idle circuit has junk in it. Where is the filter?

Re: L134 bogging
Carb was refreshed probably 200 miles ago and ran perfect. The heat riser seems to be working properly also, I don't have a inline fuel filter just the one in the fuel pump bowl. Sorry for my lack of knowledge on the PCV where would that be located?

Re: L134 bogging
Look at the intake manifold. On the side facing the driver-side fender, directly under the carburetor, is a hole. That is the PCV Port. The PCV valve goes there. It, in turn, has a steel tube that connects it down to the valve cover, where there should be a cup bolted to the block, through the valve cover. There should be a brass connector for that tube. Where is your book?

Scout,
Mine does not have a PCV on it and never has for as long as I can remember. It has Willys industrial motor in it. Would that make a difference?

Re: L134 bogging
Engines without a PCV valve had a draft tube.
This bolted to a tappet cover bolt and went straight down alongside the oil pan.
One more thought. A restricted fuel cap vent. Take the fuel cap off or at least loosen it and see if that helps.

Re: L134 bogging
Wolfman is correct. A Draft tube is appropriate. Thanks for more information. The more you share the faster it will be to take care of your issues.

Re: L134 bogging
That’s a LOT of bubbles!
The fuel pump on a Go-Devil was designed to pump fuel, not air.
The Carter WO carburetor was designed to deliver fuel to the engine, not air.
The Go-Devil engine was designed to run on gasoline, not air.
You’ve got to find the source of that air (bubbles) and eliminate it. In most MB’s/GPW’s, it seems to be either at the firewall-mounted fuel filter or the flex hose at the engine.

Re: L134 bogging
Had the same issue last night. I could spray gas into the carb and it would pick up rpm. Noticed more air bubbles in the bowl also. Cleaned all jets just to eliminate any issue there. Will tackle air issue tonight. I did look for signs of any leaking gas.

“ I did look for signs of any leaking gas.”
Good, but you probably will not find any. There is no pressure inside the tank or line except the weight of the fuel in the tank, but when the engine is running the pressure inside the fuel line is less than atmospheric. Air at atmospheric pressure is looking for a place to get in, and will.
I forgot that we are in the CJ section of G503. The most common place for air leaks into the fuel system on a CJ are a loose fitting on the inlet side of the pump and/or a tank-to-pump fuel line that’s been patched together with hose and clamps, and added fuel filters. ANY place there is a hose-and-clamp connection is a potential (probable) air leak source.

Re: L134 bogging
Problem solved!! Cork gasket under the glass bulb was the problem did not have a spare but flipped it over and it stopped bubbling, which is weird its less than a year old and hasn't been taken on and off. Is there a better solution than the cork gasket? Seems like my last one lasted years and years. Thanks for the help guys. I did double check my connections while i was at it!
