CJ2A Passenger side Inner Tie Rod install
First post here. Working on a '47 CJ2A. I'm trying to tighten down the castle nut on the drivers side inner tie rod where it passes through the passenger side inner tie rod end. Problem is the nut seems to bottom out before it threads down far enough to pass the cotter pin through. I've cranked it down as far as I'm comfortable with but still not enough room to get the cotter pin through. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks,Tim

Did it pull in far enough to put some pressure on the rubber seal? Did the tapered stud seat in the hole and will it stay there by friction if you remove the nut? Did you try the old nut? Are these new parts? Omix-ADA?

Yes it did pull through enough to put pressure on the boot. The stud will stay in the hole by friction. I will try the old nut.
These are new parts from Kaiser willys. I bought inner and outer tie rods passenger and drivers side. I half wondering if I somehow got the drivers side inner and passenger side outer mixed up or something stupid like that.

While you're at it, compare the old and new shaft to see if the holes match on depth. Some of the new parts aren't made the same.

If you get your parts from Ron Fitzpatrick, the guy who is paying for this great site, they will fit.

Both outer tie rod ends should be right-hand threads where they thread into the tube. Both inners should be left-hand threads. Pretty hard to switch anything, unless you swapped ends with the driver's side tie rod. Still, I'm pretty sure that all of the studs and all of the holes are the same size. Until you deal with Kaiser-Willys and Omix-ADA.
Sounds like it actually fits OK but the nut is too thick or the stud is not coming thru far enough. I'm betting on the nut. Put a thinner nut on it (probably the old one) put the cotter key in it, and run it.
