Vented Gas Caps?

Post by Brad Gates » Fri Oct 29, 2021 5:56 am

Guys,
Working on a CJ-2A with the OE gas tank and just sitting in the shop with a few gallons of gas when opening the cap pressure is released. This is a new cap from an online seller and they can not tell me if a non-vented cap is correct. Seems like a gas tank/system from the 1940's would be vented. Any thoughts??
THANKS
BRAD

Brad,
Everything I've read indicates an original would be vented. Some vendors don't seem to care.

Both of these state "vented"

It is my understanding that a properly vented cap will allow venting both ways.
