I’m not sure about the CJ2’s, maybe Fred can help, but I expect the MB Agrijeep had OD engines, and the CJ2-A’s got black engines on the assembly line. Replacement engines (NOT rebuilt) were red.

Assume you mean a true, CJ2 and not a CJ2A. What is the number on the water pump boss? Does it have the serial number pad on the right side?

Only numbers the block are 641087-L-WC3 A-H I do not know if the engine is a cj or cj2a or acj3. it is a gear driven type. also does anyone have the numbers of the woodruff key on both shafts of the cam and crank shafts????

Again, what are the numbers on top of the water pump boss? They are often shallowly stamped and will need the rust and grease cleaned off. If your block has been decked, then you will never know....

A gear drive jeep engine with block casting number 641087 was used in CJ-2A jeeps from, very roughly, mid-1946 or so to 1949, and may have been used in later CJ-3A jeeps and other jeeps (about which I know very little). As installed in the CJ-2A, the engine wold have been painted black. Hope this helps you.
