Early cj5 info needed

Post by dcartledge » Fri Aug 27, 2021 12:29 pm

Recently acquired an early cj5–data plate on firewall is missing..are there any other plates or numbers stamped somewhere I can look to try and get an idea of year and VIN?

Probably not. If the engine is original and serial number is intact may get the year narrowed down from that.

Thanks Steve. I did a little more research and the CJ-5 actually has the serial number stamped into the frame behind the front spring shackle passenger side closer to the firewall (ie the rear shackle of the front spring).

Thank goodness it is a robust stamping and not easily rusted away.

It is a 1958 year model...

It appears to be fairly complete and original. Missing front axle but I have one...

I'll keep you posted on this resto....
