Tire flaps/tube guards

Post by Steve Webb » Wed Mar 03, 2021 5:45 pm

Anyone have a source or number to get any. I am not having any success with size of the rims 4.5x16. I have 2 rims that will be for spares on my jeep and trailer. The rims are probably o.k. but they are a little rough inside and would rather be safe than sorry. My tubes are easy to order but not these it appears

Steve,
My first impression would've been to use an old tube - but cutting one would be tedious.

I searched and found a couple of ideas but don't know how well they may work (if they're rubber they should stretch). Even if trimming is needed, I'd guess that a pre-cut guard would trim up faster.

I did cut two old take-out tubes and used them as flaps when I replaced tires on my combat rims.

I cut about 1/3 of the material all around the inside circumference of the old tubes. Then literally tucked the partially inflated new tube into the shell of the old tube and installed it into the tire.

Easy and it seems to have worked for years now.
