Surry Gala in Hawaii on film

Post by Olav » Mon Feb 01, 2021 10:54 pm

Hi everyone. I pleased to see a color film of a pink Surry in Honolulu in the 1960s. The film is on Youtube and the title is:
Hawaii Pacific Paradise 1960s Hawaii 54434.
Enjoy the look back and the beautiful jeep!

Aloha,

Olav

Olav,
Good find! There's a whole lot of Surrey info, including a section on movies, on the CJ3B Page:

Thanks Russ, and thanks for the link. I really like the Surry Gala jeeps and one day I would like to drive one through Waikiki.

Aloha,

Olav

I saw one when we went to Hawaii about 2 years ago. I can't remember what island it was though. In a parking lot.

We flew into Honolulu and then got on cruise ship for the islands. I am pretty sure it was not in Honolulu. It would have been on Maui or the Big Island but not sure about that. My wife remembered me commenting on it but she doesn't remember either.

Thanks for the additional memories Steve. I live in Honolulu but occasionally go to the other islands. I also like to look for jeeps when out there. Once I spotted a Willys MB on the Big Island on the way to a funeral. I wasn't able to follow it or we would be late for the funeral. My Dad worked for the Kaiser Jeep company in the early 1960s, I have loved them ever since.

Aloha,

Olav

I'm on Oahu now, and I see very few 1940 - 1960 Jeeps here.
I've been trying to look at a 46 CJ2A out near Barber Point that is for sale, but the owner doesn't seem very anxious to show it.

I was born in Massillon Ohio which is about 150 miles from Toledo. My uncle had a salvage business in Ohio and he removed the electrical switchgear from some of the buildings at Willys factory and they were sent to South America.

Hi Steve, that is cool that your Uncle got to see the Willys factory. I don't know if my Dad did because even though my Dad was an American he was the Jeep representative in Australia when I was a kid. I know he had to drive a CJ5 around the country and check on dealers and show the jeep to farmers and station(ranch) owners. I still have negatives of him and his jeep in the outback. He was probably the first to circumnavigate the continent of Australia in a 4 wheel drive and he did it on his own.
