CJ3B Radiator

Post by dpcd67 » Wed Jul 22, 2020 8:07 am

Can anyone recommend a replacement radiator that fits the CJ3b.
Will a CJ5 radiator fit it? Just looking at options, one COA 1 is to fix the one I have, COA 2 is get a replacement. COA3 is to run my garden hose in it at all times.

Depending on how far away from your yard you intend to drive, the garden hose option may become unmanageable. I've really embraced the rebuild mindset - if at all possible as fitment isn't a problem. I had my radiator re-cored so that I could still use the same attachment points and stock shroud. As I've read, radiator shops are not as wide spread as they used to be. I would check to see if you had one locally.

I had to go back to the old 3B forum to find posts that may help (haven't had as many 3B related radiator posts on our new 3A/3B forum).

Thanks; yes, I have a very good radiator shop, Radiator Master; their slogan is, "A good place to go to take a leak". Yes they have T shirts. I was looking for a quickie fix for now. He was a boiler repairman in the Navy and he says that radiators are nothing but little boilers.
And the garden hose, while a workable option, would be non viable when the "driving range" criteria was applied, it being "more than 200 feet".
I will look over the links you gave me.

Some of those threads revolved around replacements. I would put my money on your "boiler" guy. Sounds like he'll do you right.

After looking at everything that was available, I, too, decided to go with a replacement core and my old tanks, frame and shroud. Very happy with the decision.

I also went the same route when it came time to do the M38 radiator.
