I just remembered a friend has a 45 CJ2a and it has the MB tub indents and column shift. I do not know the numbers though and he is not talking to me any more....
I’m pretty green at this. I think I know what you’re talking about when you say “tub indents”, but could someone perhaps post a picture or link so I can be sure I know? Would be greatly appreciated

"Indents" are those creases on the side of the body here the axe and shovel were located on the MB . They were found on early CJ-2A until the left over MB LH body panels were used up.On 1945 CJ-2A only.

My first Jeep was an early 1946 CJ2A. It had the indents,

And I jumped the gun on the indents, they did continue thru 1946 around Serial 29500. '46 Serial started around 18825 and ran thru
83779.
Cane Shift started @ 38221.

This is the tub ACM#. I am beginning to wonder if the frame and engine are out of an early CJ2A (maybe a '45?) and the tub/tailgate are out of a newer CJ2A. I have read that the ACM#s are supposed to be 10,000 less +/- 1,500 than the jeep SN. If this is true in the 1945 production run, is there any way my tub could be original with this high of an ACM#? Any thoughts are appreciated here. It's a new mystery every day with this thing.

Could you post a drivers site view of your CJ-2A?

This isn't a real good photo, but hopefully it can give you a little more info. Please ignore all the stuff piled up in the tub. Haven't taken time to take out the top or windshield frame back there yet. I know that rearview mirror is most definitely not original. It seems like it was used as a hunting rig at some point. Told y'all it was rough. Ha.

No Indents, your serial number is greater than CJ-2A-29500. Cane Shift indicates greater than CJ-2A-38221.

Sounds to me like we're looking at a non-original late 40s body on a 45 frame?

Quick question, Ben, then back to Trapshooter's jeep.
46 CJs started at 18825 ???
So that would make the Column shift I just finished, serial # 18180, a late 45 instead of an early 46 ????
Interesting!
