Willy's logo removed ?

Post by GI. » Tue Feb 19, 2019 4:35 pm

When Kaiser bought out Willy's in around 1955 did they remove the "Willy's" logo on all the head's on the L-134 flat head jeep engine's, like the DJ-3A ?
I bought a L-134 for my jeep and the head is missing the Willy's logo on the head, it does have the "Jeep" logo on the head. no industrial.
Thank's.

Don't know if this will help in the puzzle. My untouched 56 CJ 5 stocker, still has Willys on the tailgate and has Jeep on the forward side of the body on both sides. Still has a Willys ID plate on the firewall.

The engine is being installed about 50 mile's from here, I did not think to write the casting numbers down. I think the guy that is doing the work said it was a 1948-49 ? not sure, I know it had the reinforced head on it.
I just thought it looked a little strange with out the willy's logo missing on the head.
Did the very early CJ engine's not have the Willy's logo on it's head's ?

WW2 Head will also fit the postwar L134. some had no willys and no Jeep. However with the ribs on the head it is post war, most have willys and Jeep, unless it says supersonic. Some have nothing on them, will try to find the info. Get the casting number on the head and on the block, only way to date it and find out what is is.

Kaiser kept the Willys name, as Willys Motors, dropping the Overland part.

I might have 2 of these, casting number points to a M38. Will need your casting number and maybe yours has a date on it. 6.48 compression ration. I think there other compression ratios

Not sure. The drawing for that part may indicate that information. I have a NOS Willys head with the plug and will try to take a look at the name on it.

The ORD 9 for the M-38 Lists 807763 as the Cylinder Head for the M-38
I have checked these 3 Cylinder Heads from my stock.

WILLYS
JEEP----- 800376 (no Plug for bypass)

WILLYS
JEEP----- 807763 (w/Plug for bypass)

WILLYS
JEEP--INDUSTRIAL------800376 (w/plug for bypass)

Note the casting Numbers and Markings, all have Willys/JEEP The ORD 9 indicates a part number 800376, one of the two two 800376 I have does not have the plug for the bypass, the other does.
Jeep Parts with the 800XXX numbers are 1950 ish and started with the M-38. The three I checked all have WILLYS/JEEP cast into them and all are 6.48:1 Compression Ratio

I have more Cylinder heads:
My CJ2A-CJ-3A Parts Manual Lists the 6.48:1 Heads as 640161 and 639660 640161 is listed in the 1945 CJ-2A Willys Parts Manual and also the 1962 CJ-5 Parts Manual

Will try to get to the other heads on Saturday to look at the markings, they are a mix of NOS and resurfaced. Will check to see if there are 640161 CJ-2A, CJ-3A and DJ-3A Heads that are marked With and Without WILLYS on them.
