Re: Cj spare tire lock
I think it was an option (From the 1949 Parts List):
Group 31-09B - Spare Wheel Lock
Part #666628 Kit,Spare Wheel Lock (Use 670343)
Consists of:
666584 1 LOCK, spare wheel, assembly (Use 666628)
A-1318 1 NUT, spare wheel lock
116844 KEY, spare wheel lock cylinder (When ordering give key number)
I guess that that last remark would mean that it is not the same as MB/GPW, because they all used the H700 key, didn't they?

Looks like it. I don't believe I've ever actually seen one in the flesh. Interesting, the same part shows up twice in different parts groups. Only one is given in the index. Same part numbers though.
One thing I wondered about, somewhere along the way (sometime in '48 I think) the lug nut size was increased from needing a 3/4" wrench, to 13/16. The stud size remained the same. I wonder which size the nut in the lock kit is. One might find that his lug-wrench doesn't fit the lock nut. No problem for me, I carry a four-way wrench. BW

Have the same nut! Must be correct for civilian jeeps?
