What is the Length of T90 Cluster Gear Spacer?

Post by ndnile » Sat Jul 28, 2018 1:03 pm

Rebuilding a T90 for the first time. I received a cluster gear spacer in parts from a friend. The received spacer is 1/4" shorter than my original. Not sure which is correct. Original is 4 5/8", received one is 4 3/8". I expect the shorter received one is correct based on how it was the needle bearings in the cluster gear that turned to bits and failed The ends of the original also were chewed up a bit. I wanted to double check with the collective before proceeding.

Transmission goes into a 6cyl Willys wagon.

Thanks, Doug

Can't tell you the exact length of the spacer tube but once the tube, washers and needles are all in place, the ends should be close to flush with the ends of the cluster gear. If they are really recessed, you have the wrong tube in place. Should have used the long one.

I don't know the change date, or any of that, but the "early" T-90's used fewer washers and the longer tube. "Later" T-90's got more washers (6 total I think) and a shorter tube. As Wolfman said, either way the outer washers should be almost flush with the end of the gear. BW
