Install it correctly. Supply it with no more than 1.5 psi fuel pressure. DON'T pump it to start it. You'll find out.

Reports I have seen on the "G". Opinion is the older ones are better than the new. ??? Maybe.
Like Scoutpilot said. They are a different beast. No accelerator pump and no choke plate. Just an enrichment circuit for cold starting. And when using the enrichment feature, do not push on the accelerator. Screws it up and no start.
You will be on a learning curve but a lot of people on here have them and like them.

The old ones (as fitted to Hotchkiss M201s) are brilliant and up to any OEM standard; because they are OEM.

The new ones avaliable now are made in India (and not France) and are said to (sometimes) suffer from random build issues.

I had one for a bit and it was o.k. having to install a pressure gauge was not something I was crazy about. I got a better WO and put it back on.

I have had a Solex on my 58 F head for 10 years now. It has run great, until lately. At slow speed the carburetor is starting to sputter.

I am sure it is just a dirty port or a bad gasket. It is probably time for a good cleaning and or rebuild.

Overall for the price I paid I pleased with the results.

At the moment our original Carter if on the workbench waiting for a rebuild and we are experimenting now with a few different Solex carbs.

We have an original M201 Solex and an Indian-made new one waiting on the shelf, but at the moment the jeep runs surprisingly well on a Solex for a 1960's-70's European car (was fitted to Opel, Simca, Peugeot etc.). The armatures point in the wrong direction so we had to improvise some new routing and fixtures for the cables but other than that it bolts right on.

We tried this carb just for fun and are actually amazed by the results; they can be found here for as low as $20 in working condition. If needed I can check for the exact model.

Used three of them; last one I put on a friends Cj2a last week, new. Works fine if you treat them like Scout said. And he knows carbs like no one else on the planet.
