'47 CJ2A

Post by redvettemike » Sat Sep 09, 2023 3:21 am

We are doing some restoration work on this '47 CJ2A. It was originally red but was painted OD Green sometime in the last 7 decades. We have media blasted it and it is now in epoxy primer. There is some rust but not too bad. We will cut that out. We are going to repaint in the military color. The mechanicAls have been addressed.

Your windshield is definitely not CJ2A; it is 3A. Which "military" color did you pick. There are many of them.

We have done considerable work on this 1947 CJ2A. The owner wanted a military looking Jeep and that is what he now has. It is not 100% correct but it is nice and he likes it.

Very nice. We have a few of these around here; in a parade, if it is green, it's an Army jeep.

Around here, it doesn’t have to be green: “Why did you paint that Army jeep red?”
That and : “I drove one just like that in Viet Nam, republic of.”

Nice job!

You should install a pair of these doors over the headlights to finish them.
Looks kinda goofy without them.

Definitely! I assumed you had the headlight rings, either CJ ones painted green, or a set of M38s (which are like in the ebay listing). You can't ship that jeep looking like that, and it is incomplete as well.

We have bought new headlight rings. They are not here yet. The owner lives not far from me and we will install them when we get them. I am taking it to his daughter's house today and they are going to surprise him in the morning.

For safety reasons you might want to advise him that tire pressure in those 7.00x16 NDCC tires should be 25 psi --- not 35 as stenciled on the rear fenders.
NDCC's can be tricky enough to drive on without being over-inflated.

Will do on that tire pressure rec. Thanks. We did deliver the Jeep this morning to the daughter's house. Doing about 40 we had traffic backed up on US Hwy 51 for a 1/8 mile.

Some parts of the country call that a parade. :D

Nice job. Thanks for keeping another vintage jeep alive.
