Re: REPRODUCTION TUBS
Never used a full reproduction tub. If you have anything at all to start with most pieces in these are fairly easy to make from sheet steal. That being Said if you don’t have tool to bend metal than some of the patches might not be a bad idea

Re: REPRODUCTION TUBS
I used a complete replacement tub, fenders, hood, grill. Quite a bit of work to fit and finish. That said I have seen original bodies that look like Ray Charles did the work. Which would I rather have?? When does a body become not original? To me once they are patched they are no longer original. Even repainted is no longer original. To each his own. My 2 cents.

Re: REPRODUCTION TUBS
First post; welcome.
I've used a lot of new bodies; they are fine. I've also seen guys use an original firewall and dash and replace everything aft of that, and call that original. Nonsense.
Use what you need to, After all, nothing is all original any more, and who cares anyway?
I guarantee you that 99.999% of people who look at your jeep will not know the difference anyway. At least here they don't; and anything that is green, is Military too.

Re: REPRODUCTION TUBS
Wolfman's hint of the day.
You decide to go for an aftermarket tub.
Time comes to install it to the frame. ( here comes the hint)
Human nature says square the tub up on the frame and drill the tub to frame holes in the new tub.
Wrong. A toss of the dice.
Mount the fenders and maybe grill to the frame.
Now square the tube up on the frame with the fenders attached.
Now drill the tub to frame mounting holes.
Otherwise, when you go to mount the fenders, maybe the fender to tub bolt holes will line up with the tub holes and maybe they won't.
Had a guy bring me his CJ project with this problem. Looked good when it was pushed into the shop but when the smoke cleared, the tub to frame mount holes had to be moved about an inch.
Sad start to a brand new tub.

Wolfman,
My SGI tub dropped on first time, all frame holes lined up, and fenders and hood (not SGI) fitted no problem.
My 10p (cents) worth.

Re: REPRODUCTION TUBS
Not sure where this aftermarket tub came from but it had no frame mounting holes to start.
They had to be drilled after the tub was positioned.
That is where he messed up.
Looked good until he tried to put the fenders on.

Re: REPRODUCTION TUBS
Wolfman,
That’s the problem, people make generalised comments and the truth gets lost.
SGI (India) was mentioned by Steve Webb (above). I had to use an early version of their tub and had a few minor issues which were fed back, but from receiving the tub to driving was three weeks effort!
Yes, I hear, some tubs have issues but my experience with SGI was pretty positive.
I’ve now sold my SGI tub on as the original has been repaired and there’s no longer a panic make D-Day +75 (been there, done that).

I must say that you did a great job! Are those seats original? One of my options is the Smittybilt low back bucket seat, although I'm not sure if the installation will be easy or not.

Re: REPRODUCTION TUBS
Nice job.
As for mounting a new tub; definitely don't drill any holes until you mount the entire body kit onto the frame, meaning fenders and grill too. As stated above, you must fit it as a set.
As for SGI bodies, I still want Ron to be a US dealer; I hear the SGI bodies are as close to right as you can expect.

The seat frames are original. The cushions are original style, but are a modern set made by Beachwood Canvas.

Re: REPRODUCTION TUBS
I used SGI body kit for my slat grill project, and was very
Impressed with quality of tub, every hole lined up perfect .
Having used mD juan kit past project and I can tell from my experience how perfect SGI body kits are. Saves lots of hours
Of drilling holes, sanding , fixing the mounting issues .
Another thing I would like to mention is unlike mDjuan, the SGI team welcomes all feedback and correction is made right away .
(due to possible litigation this name is blocked) is there US dealer.
Hope it helps .
