Looking for some info on new Willys

Post by Bburn102 » Wed Sep 23, 2020 6:05 am

Hey everyone,

Just joined the forum as I recently purchased my first Willys jeep and very excited about it. Was hoping to throw up some photos here and get some more info on it. So hit me with some knowledge guys.

I know its a civilian jeep listed as a 48 could be incorrect, title says 48 however.
The guy I bought it from told me that the engine is not original. It does run and starts up easily.
Would be happy to put up more pictures if needed. Thanks

Ok, post the number on the engine, and any numbers on data plates on the fire wall. Or frame. On the engine it will be on the front, top of the block where the water pump goes. Engines are not matching on Willys jeeps; never. They made many more engines than jeeps.
Your windshield is from an M38 and so is the BO drive light, so bubba has already been working on it.
Wow, I now see it has an F head engine in it; fortunately they didn't cut a hole in the hood.
I guess the year doesn't matter anyway now.
Welcome to the forum.
I recommend you get all the publications you can, and read them every day; get the Jeep Universal maintenance book, and I would get at least the Drive train manual for an M38; they are very close and most parts are the same; that will teach you how to maintain it. The Military TMs are much better than civilian books.

Yes it is a 48 CJ2a. The engine number means nothing in the context of that since it is the wrong type of engine; they came with the flathead, L134, as you know.
Just drive it. Weld up the radio hole in the dash though.

I see a mix of late CJ-2A/CJ-3A/M-38 parts with a "F"-Head engine. Note the Tru-Value Hardware hood hinges.
