Hi everybody, I'm in France so excuse me if my english is not very good.

I own some US military vehicule (jeep dodge gmc weasel...) and a 1/4t trailer body, which looks like strange because nobody can tell me if it's a bantam or willys. I hope I will find here specialists?
the number on the frame is 27927W. the shock absorbers fixations look like willys and bantam. I have read on books that on bantam they are riveted on the side and welded on the bottom, shock absorbers are fixed with a nut. on my trailer, the fixations are riveted on the side and welded on the bottom, shock absorbers are fixed with split pin. look at pictures.

can someone tell me who is the manufacturer of this trailer and also an approximate date of manufacture.

thanks
philippe

Hello Chuck,

My name is Stefaan and reside in Belgium. I bought a 1/4 ton trailer in France a couple of weeks ago and hope you can give me more information about it like make, DOD and USA number.

1/ Data plate of TEC (Blank) and 229 Ord Base Depot (Date 13 May 1955).
2/No USA Number on the body, but markings of max speed in Dutch and Dutch flag.
3/ACM number is 91489 stamped on the frame under the left forward fitting.
4/Upper shockmount are threaded and bolted to the frame. Lower shockmounts are cotter pins
5/ Axel is welded.
6/8 leaves on springs (standard flat). closure on the top of the spring clip. (suspect these are not original to the trailer)
7/Reflectors are smaller and put higher and no taillights fitted.
8/The "L" support was bolted to frame.
9/No additional number stamped on the frame.
10/ head bolts are a mixture of A, BC and MINDUR.
11/ Only Max speed markings in Dutch on rear panel. (No red base paint to be found, so I think complete sandblast and repaint).

If needed, I can supply pictures.
Looking forward to your info,

Best regards

Stefaan

Dear All,
I have a trailer who looks like Philippe's one (lauvergnat) and I want to know if it's Willys or Bantam.
Here the details:
1/ the plate is not the original one, so no information
2/ the trailer was repainted so I haven't the USA number
3/ ACM number : 12579W
4/ upper shock mount : bolted, it seems
5/ the axel is a straight tube with a welded seam in the middle
6/ springs : I had the surprise to see that I have 8 leaves on a side and 10 on the other side
7/ the reflectors are not the original ones... Taillight Mounts: Standard brackets are bolted to the tub
8/ i forgot to look for all the numbers but I have one on the side of the drawbar : 10349
9/ bolts : nothing particular
10/ no unit numbers

Here are some pictures. If someone can confirm that it's a Willys and could help me giving me a DOD :D

Hi,

ACM number 12579W should have a DoD of 10--42.
Willys never stamped a day Date in the data-plate.

Is do not have an estimate in the USA number.
Mit small database, created of this thread does not have verrified USA numbers near thus one.

Hope it helps.

Thanks Remko
So my trailer is well a Willys and I'm happy to know that it's from 42!
I'll not put an USA number if it's impossible to have it from a data base

Your pictures didn't show (and didn't appear as links to me)

Your trailer is just a little older then mine viewtopic.php?f=18&t=149552

My ACM number is 13092 and my serial number is 10968. The number stamped into the side of your drawbar is probably the serial number. If it were my trailer I would order a reproduction data plate from dataplates4u.com and have Robert stamp 10 42 for the date of delivery and 10349 for the serial number.

You've got a Bantam axle (mine had one as well).

Chuck suggested that I use "USA 0168533" as my USA number. Based on that yours would be on the order of "USA 0167914"
