ACM numbers policy

Post by vargento » Wed Mar 16, 2022 8:34 am

Hi,
it could be a silly question but I couldn't find an answer. Are the ACM numbers "single" or not? In other words, every trailer had a number and then it was delivered to Bantam or Willys depending on the B or W stamped on or there is a (for example) a 15230B and a 15230W?
Thanks in advance

Some ACM number only had the number, not the B or W regardless of them being Willys or Bantam.
In other words there are a number of examples of Willys with no W and Bantams with no B in the ACM number. The ACM number is not a trailer serial number but a manufacturer applied ID number. The ACM number can be helpful in IDing a trailer as to what manufacturer and even a relatively close DoD but it's not exact. Because of FILO/LIFO the ACM number is not a 100% way to know especially when looking at any one of the other 9 makers.

Thanks Bill. So it's possible that the number is unique regardless the final buyer (W or B)....
