BT3-C removable tailgate

Post by Steve Webb » Sun Dec 06, 2020 9:40 am

Getting my trailer ready and did not like the tailgate hinge on the civvy and mine was beat up badly. I also wanted it removable and had some tailgate hinges from another cj tailgate I bought. Far amount of work but am very pleased with what turned out. Here is 1 pic of detail and link to a better description of work and other pics. This will be a working trailer so mostly original but not all of it.

Forgive welding I ran out of shield gas pretty smoky

:D . No it is to protect my tires from some painting I am doing under the fenders. One thing I don't like about tailgates if you have dirt it is pain to load and unload. Even just loading trash or whatever getting close to the bed is always better. Old place mats by the way.

This is why I have the removable tailgate.

Close to work, moving material easily and very little spillage, also glad I put the sheet metal in bottom instead of the original floor.

Hauled first load and chipped/shredded it for some compost down the road

If anyone has a spare tailgate for sale, my poor T3C needs a new one badly.

Donk,
I've seen ads on some mil vendors offering a tailgate. Otherwise an end panel can be used but a reinforcement strip will need to be added.

Well we just had a bloke named Ian come a week ago. I made out o.k. 14 miles inland so no flooding but boy that wind was something. Using trailer a lot last few days and hauling vegetation and tools around having this trailer is really great.
